AIBU to b constantly hungry

Is it me or are we the only family who are always bloody starving ??? I can't afford to keep the fridge stocked up we are living off Iceland frozen food we get one hot meal a day and during the day I survive off biscuits and maybe a slice of toast! I can't believe it's 2012 and we are living like this :'(

And all the aid we are sending to third world countries bloody starving but I'm overdrawn :( have to wait till dinner time now but it makes me so miserable and tired and I'm bf my baby :'(

I can't think what they are called, but there are companies/charities who hand out weekly/monthly food parcels for free to people who are struggling.

Look online and see if you can find one of them close to you.

But you're absolutely right, shouldn't be happening in 2012-and if you're bf it's more of a reason for extra help.

I am pregnant and the babys abdomen is small. That happens when it has to use its energy reserves in its liver, because I havent eaten enough :(

Are you getting all the benefits you are entitled to?

We both work I doubt we would b entitled to help , I can't understand y we are struggling we don't buy ravish things ? We have moved tho and have had to fork out go some new bits

You are not alone and you are right it shouldn't happen in 2012, but YABU if you think iceland meals are the cheapest way to feed your family. By making some real food with cheap ingredients you could have leftovers to make soup. Soup if dead cheap to make and keeps you full and warm at lunchtime.

Hey wannabe I was told that at my scan before I had this baby but she turned out to b really big don't no how as some days I only had a sandwich and I was working 50 hours doing a physical job. Think we are getting all help we can I just needed a rant as all I feel is hungry it's getting me down. And how come its cheaper to buy crisps then fruit ??

Please don't compare yourself to those starving in third world countries. They are actually starving to death. Not just hungry.

as others have said: find your local food bank. go to citizens advice to find out what benefits/support you are entitled to. look at cutting back if at all poss - do you both have mobiles are you on the best tariffs. the programmes on tv that show you how to save little bits here and there are corny but they give food for thought. also shop at the end of the day and get the money off veg stuff and mishapen tins. ready meals are way too expensive - cook from scratch if you are at home with your baby all day.

Isnt one hot meal a day normal Confused nobody who works full time can be be compared to those living without any food and literally starving to death. Things are tight for everyone these days but there are ways and means. Cut back, cook from scratch, sell off old things etc

Ok I meant no breakfast or lunch just a dinner sorry I didn't emphasise properly that's it just one meal a day I basically have a cup of tea and 2 biscuits and then wait till 6 for dinner but trying to get thru on that is hard as bfing is making me really hungry as she is sharing my biscuits Grin

I make sure the kids have breakfast and lunch for school but that's a lot a week, we shop around for deals I've found asda the cheapest so far and iceland

Sorry but Iceland is the cheapest way to eat when you have a limited amount of money...I have been exactly in that boat and theres no amount of "buying fresh" that would be cheaper.

OP, housing benefit isnt just for people out of work. So its worth seeing if you could be eligible.

Buy porrige in a big bag from Aldi or similar...it s CHEAP....we do that and it's a pain to make yes but really filling and hot. Add a bit of sugar or honey....I made a massive pot of blacurrant jelly in late summer and we add that too....and for lunch, you could have soup as someone else said.

One chicken for 4 quid, means 3 meals...roast, curry and soup with the carcass.

Wannabe I am in a VERY tight situation....we buy fresh....we have nothiing in freezer atm. All our food is cooked. We don't spend more than around 65 pounds for 2 adults and 2 DC a week.

Yes I will look into it thanks goddess. Sorry for the comment about the third world I know they are dying it was wrong what I meant was we send billions there which their governments buy themselves big houses and planes and weapons with y we could use that money better here to sort this recession out

One meal a day while breastfeeding is more than just being hungry.

The point is, this isnt a third world country, people shouldnt need food banks and cheap as shit food. The government should be looking after its own first.

Cheeky, are you still trying to lose weight?

It's just in the other threads I've seen of yours you have mentioned trying hard to lose weight and I don't want you to think that starving yourself is the way to go.

Or is it simply a question of money?

Yes, £65 is what we have for food. We can buy fresh.

When we has £10 to last four days for 2 adults and a toddler. And I was pregnant.

The reality is that some people dont even have £65 for food.

No...they don't but the fact is that even on less, you can buy enough. You just have to cook it. Lentils, rice, porrige....they're not apetizing but they're better than frozen crap.

Add onions, carrots and herbs....as I said before, a chicken provides three meals with additions....dried noodles are 11p a pack in tesco...there's not a reason to not have a lunch.

My lunches are things like noodles....Im not underweight.

We live on a very tight budget to op, dp works for low wage, im a sahm to 2 dc's. We have also lived life on benefits for a long time its hard but there are ways. Make sure you are getting all the benefits you are entitled to. I also used to agree that buying frozen food was cheaper than from scratch because until you have the basics in herbs, pastas etc its hard but it can be done and it will keep you fuller longer too, iceland food wont at all. Theres nothing wrong with doing, fishfingers and chips one night and beans on toast one night etc chuck on some frozen sausages to fill it out. Pasta is really cheap to do, value toms, onion, some herbs and value pasta, i class it as a free meal because its so cheap and always in the cupboard. Soups really cheap to do as well, few veggies and a stock cube, buy a pack of part bake bread for about 50p to have with it. We do tend to eat the same foods over and over but we do eat

You can buy gib bags of value cereal for pennies, there is no reason to be eating one meal per day, there is certainly no reason in this country for babies to be not growing correctly due to not eating enough.

What's your food budget? Have at look at threads in Credit Crunch section, there are lots of good posts about how to eat on very little money, also see Money Saving Expert site for really hard core money saving.
It must feels awful to be hungry so focus on getting more for your money to avoid the feeling if possible - use lots of potatoes, pasta and rice - toast during the day, tinned soup. There's really good advice on the threads/site I mentioned.

There were weeks in this pregnancy when we literally didnt even have a tenner. Thats why my baby isnt growing.

It shouldnt be happening. But it is. More often than peoe think.

You don't necessarily have to use all fresh ingredients - it's the cooking from scratch that really cuts costs down. Bulk buy things like porridge, rice and pasta to keep these as cheap as possible. Buy things like tinned tomatoes and tinned veg - means you don't ever waste stuff that goes off - and make pasta sauces and soups with them. Buy bread and meat at the end of the day when they're reduced. Chickens can be got cheap and can be stretched out over a couple of days. Porridge can be made with water if buying lots of milk is too much. Buy a big bag of raisins and add to the porridge for sweetness and use them as a snack. Check if the children could get free school meals.
