To NOT take my 14 year old his lunch

He''s left his packed lunch on the kitchen worktop and will no doubt be hungry, but he IS 14 and he finishes school at 2.30 today (because it's a Tuesday!!!) so AIBU to think he can wait until he gets home

How far away is school?

YANBU. At 14, he can borrow from friends or whatever, and he will be less likely to forget his lunch in the future

School is less than a mile away, he'll be home before 3

If the school's not too far I'd take it to him.

I don't see what his age has to do with it.

Everyone forgets things sometimes.

My children's school will give them a school lunch if they forget theirs, to be paid for the next day.

They get a 'hardship' meal (horrible phrase) at my DS's school.

It's a roll, a piece of fruit and a drink of water.

Can you take it? Are you busy? If so, I can't see why you wouldn't.

But if you're working and can't then there'll be a back up arrangement I'm sure - school lunch, shares etc

Unless you have never, ever forgotten anything in your life, then YABU. Everyone forgets sometimes.

I wouldn't, but I'd be too busy to take it round that's why. It won't kill him, I've done it at work and had to borrow money. I'm sure one of his friends will help him out.

Depends. If the school is near enough and don't offer a, "hardship" meal (I agree, horrible term) and it wouldn't inconvenience/cost me or other children then I would take it. If he will be offered something at school to tide him over and cost, financial or otherwise, would make life difficult, I wouldn't, seeing as he'll be home by 3pm.

Has he done this before? If it's a rare one-off, take it in. If you've told him time and time again that you won't take his lunch in for him next time, then put the kettle on safe in the knowledge that he will definitely remember next time.

I would take it (just as I did when I found one pe trainer left in the hall!)

The schools around here are cashless so borrowing money wouldn't do any good.

14 year olds are perfectly capable of sorting this out for themselves. They'll scab off their mates or borrow some money to buy something from the canteen. Don't baby him!

It depends on the history of his being forgetful/careless/ late getting up in the morning and how inconvenienced you'd be by going to school IMO.

No! And I'm not taking my 14 yo sports shirt in although it's a little bit my fault.

My DS (13) would be mortified if I went to his school with his lunch!

If its a one off I would, but we didnt with Dss who would forget constantley. He soon learnt.

YANBU if there are Lessons To Be Learned. I once told DD to pack her swimming things three times one evening and when she forgot them in the morning the school rang me to ask if I could bring them. She is in year eight! I replied that I thought that was what detention was for.

No way would I take it. Can't remember how many times I left my lunch at home aged 14+. No one bought it for me. I had to borrow money from friends and get a portion of chips or some crisps from the vending machine. Really, he's old enough now. YANBU!

I'd take it to him if it's not far away.
