That's a horrible sound isn't it?

My brother lives near a farm and it's awful to hear the cows calling out for them. They sound like they're in pain.

kilmuir · 15/10/2012 22:19

horrible.

We're surrounded by fields here and when the last set of calves were weaned the noise was awful. Then 3 of the cows escaped the field in search of their babies Sad

DH had to sidle past them on his way out to work and called me from the car "just FYI don't go for a walk this morning until I've called the farmer". I looked out of the window to see a large brown arse being scratched against my wall! They went on the trot 3 more times that week, the ringleader kept convincing more and more to escape each time. I luffs her I do, she has nous Grin

It is harsh, I know, but they do moooooove on within about 24 hours

They come and poke their heads in my mums kitchen window looking for their calves. She cheers them up with inappropriate treats and has been told off more than once by the farmer.

kilmuir · 17/10/2012 21:41

like the sound of your mum theodorakis

I remember the noise the mares used to make when we weaned their foals on the stud farm I worked at. A heartbreaking sound, but they really do get over it very quickly.
