have had alot of ailments and things wrong with me this year. numerous procedures, surgery, appointments and of course time off work. i try keep it to a minimum but there are times i am not well for work so i have doctors certs.

friend of dp always has a dig ... "off work today then", "oh you have a great job", "wasting tax payers money" blah blah blah.

anyways it came to a head last week. he sauntered in and when he saw I was home said "on holidays again eh?" and a big laugh. I basically told him when he pays my wages he can have an input but since i pay his "wages" through social welfare and I say nothing about him sitting on his arse all day that he better keep his comments to himself.

wibu? i personally hate the "i pay your wages" line but he was really starting to grate on me.

YANBU.

I have the opposite problem though it's the same, my friend has a super high flying job (respect where it's due) and whatever I say she spins it into a put down about how easy I have it. FUCKSAKE! (excuse expletives)

It's very hard to retaliate without sounding like a needy lazy martyr... ignore or simply call him a knob.

thanks dont feel so bad now. and would never throw it in someone's face being on social welfare. but he was really starting to bug me felt i had to explain myself or show HIM my doctors cert. grrrrrrr!!

i probably would have said something like "it's sad that you feel you need to do this" or "do you ever ask yourself why you do this?" and then a sympathetic head tilt and walked away.

oh Being that would go over his head. he wouldnt get that kind of comment. i am lucky to have a job in these times, lucky that they are so good with appointments but i do have to provide proof and i pay every time to get a cert and actually costs more than if i worked. but hate that i feel i have to explain myself.

starting off as a joke, then more jokes, then more digs and jokes... just had enough.

think is have heard inlaws make similar comments at times (great job, are you ever in work, god i'd be fired long ago).

thankfully i dont normally see him but he is a friend of dps. we do normally have banter and give and get slagging but he was getting to me on this one.

i dont live with a partner but even if i did i couldn't imagine being expected to tolerate someone like that in my own home. doesn't your DP call him on his behaviour when he speaks like this? what dfoes your DP do/say when he does it? how close a friend is he to this pig?

its more of a work friend. he does a few jobs here and there for dp is handy with electrics. not that buddy buddy. i normally kind of get on with him. dp said nothing didnt expect him to though he did say "fair play to ye" and laughed when he left.

I just dont understand having him in the house. does your DP really need this person to do those jobs for him? if this 'friend' suddenly moved to asutralia your DP would either have to do the jobs himself or get someone else in to do it. i'd rather pay a tradesman to come in than have that arsehole in my house and have to bite my tongue and share sideways glances with my partner. i mean, it's YOUR home, you get to say who gets in and how you get treated in it! why do you both allow this?
