To be let down by my new (highly anticipated) phone...

Was due for an upgrade and use my phone a lot for work, play and general communication!

Weighed up the prices, pros, cons and decided to bite the bullet and go for the iphone5. Previously I've had a Blackberry.

The phone itself is great and much easier to use for everything but the battery life is shocking!

AIBU to take it back to the shop and have a moan/ask for a new handset or does anyone else have similar experience of this with iphone?

Sorry to be boring btw but I'm obsessing! (sad)......

yes battery life on a lot of the high end phones are quit poor epically if you use it a lot. As the displays are quit power hungry. have a look at the specs on some of the other phones and see if there is one that would be better for you. The Samsung displays are a different technology so may have a longer battery life, have a look at the specs.

I have to charge my iphone every night, I just consider it a fair pay off for the amount of things it can (and does) do during the day

You weighed up the pros and cons but failed to notice the many may reviews and reports that tell you how short the battery life on an iphone is?!

That's just how they ARE, and when you think you are essentially carrying around a hand held computer, it's not surprising really. Blackberrys aren't in the same class and aren't so power hungry as a consequence.

I think if you take it back (unless the battery is only lasting an hour or something) and complain and ask for a swap you will simply give the shop their first laugh of the day...

Turn off location services (in settings). It makes quite a big difference.

Charging every night is routine for me, and I reckon the phone (a 4s) is worth it.

Big screens are power hungry, as other user have said just get into the habit of charging overnight, check with the shop but I doubt it's faulty.

There's a lot of things you an adjust to save battery life. Brightness settings, location settings etc.

I also charge my iPhone every night (3s) but I constantly use it through out the day so I don't mind plus it's over two years old. It's all about how much you use it and what you use it for if it was just for phone calls then it would use less battery. If like me you use it to mn then the battery will last less

I've noticed the iPhone5 has piss poor battery compared to the 4. But I've also noticed that over time, and being charges up more, that is improving. Especially if you keep a check on open programmes and close those you're not using regularly.

My android has an app called juice defender that automatically adjusts settings to save battery. Is there an iPhone version or something similar?

My phone is a big power eater too and does require nightly charging. It's useful to keep your old phone for when you go on holiday or camping! The battery life was a real shock for me, I'd had a £30 phone that lasted a week or two before it!

I have the iPhone 4, having had bberry previously. I agree about the battery life- I could go for days without charging the bberry.

I have a battery booster which I take with me if I'm going to be out for the day as I know the battery won't last. It recharges the iPhone on the move.

iHate my iPhone.

I have to charge my iPhone 4s over night, then again for an hour mid day and sometimes in the evening for a bit too. I do use it a lot though. eBay really kills my battery for some reason. I use mn a lot and fb but not YouTube or games.

Most of the high end smart phones have a high level of battery consumption, they are mini computers and need a lot of power to run all the various functions.

If you turn off location settings, adjust screen brightness and make sure you clear your apps a couple of times a day it will help. It also just depends on what you use it for, mine (4s) is used all day for phone, text, Internet, various apps, music etc so I accept that I have to charge it each evening. My mum has a 4 that goes two days between charges as she uses a lot less of the 'extras'.

I used to take the battery lead and plug in to my computer at work (obviously not syncing it) so it would charge during the day when I wasn't using it.

Now that I work from home/SAHM I have an in-car charger and plug it in every time
I get in the car.

You can change the settings so the screen locks after so many seconds, and change the brightness etc.

I love my iPhone despite shit battery life!

iphone 5..... I'm a former apple fan and really it hasn't excited me....

I actually jumped ship to galaxy note in May (planning to sell it if I loved the 5). it has a few minor irritations but overall is a huge improvement on the 4.

I have 2 spare batteries that I do need if I use my phone intensely eg taking notes at a training day- I'll swap batteries at lunch time and maybe when I get home.

At least you CAN have spare batteries. It's very liberating! TRying to sit near a plug to take notes on iphone was baaad!

If you double press the home icon on the phone, it will bring up all the apps you have used that are just minimised, make sure you clear them off as they are still running, so will use battery quicker!

The thing that used mu battery life was the constant iCloud being used/ all data saved to. Now mine saves everything to iCloud only once every 48 hrs instead of constantly and saves lots

Also as others have said location settings, brightness etc. also if always on 3G it goes quickly so try to get on wifi where possible.

Mine lasts around a day but used constantly. 2 days if just the odd call

My Galaxy SII also need charging every day, quite a shock after my string of "dumb" phones by SonyEricsson, which have such fantastic battery life I was only charging about once a week!

I just got the 32gb Iphone 5 at the weekend.

It's OK, nothing special but I wasn't particularly fussed about having it but my DH went and did it for me as a surprise. My old Iphone 4 was getting old now anyway and was a bit slow so I was quite pleased.

As for battery goes mine lasts about 2 days. Obviously if I sit on it all the time it will only last 1 day - as with all Iphones.

If the battery is really that bad for u maybe it's faulty and you should take it back for a new one.
