to not understand boxes of tissues

Always make me feel a little queasy when I see them taking pride of place on coffee tables.
If you need to blow your nose, do you not just get a bit of loo roll? What's the advantage in spending what seems to be a disproportionately large amount of money on tissues?

As a very experienced tissue user, I can tell you that loo roll is just not the same. It's made to disintegrate after use. A tissue does not do that. I very often have a runny nose (various allergies) and have tissues all over the house (other family members also suffer from the same). I hope that explanation is sufficient .

I like to have a box of tissues in several rooms of the house. That way I don't have to run to the bathroom when my DS has just sneezed a great big green bogie all over his face.
Also, toilet paper just isn't thick enough for some nose blows.

Loo roll ok for an odd blow. If you have a cold, tissues are much softer, and don't give you a sore nose.

as someone whose DH drops used toilet roll down the side of the bed and leaves it there for weeks, I can tell you the diference. DUST. There is an inordinate amount of dust generated by loo roll.
I agree though, Its blinking expensive. and pointless since DH wont use it anyway.

Keeping a box of tissues on a shelf next to the sofa means that you do not have to get up and traipse to the bathroom when your dripping-nosed toddler interrupts your morning coffee with "wipe my nose mummy, I've got snot".

Toilet paper rips your skin to shreds. I have allergies too, and frequent colds due to an immunity problem, and if I use loo roll after running out of tissues, the skin round my nose flakes and bleeds.

We never ever had tissues growing up. We weren't poor, it was just seen as something needlessly frivolous I think. So I now have a box in ever room and feel all fancy.

Oh oh, I even bought covers for the boxes made from Laura Ashley material for maximum knobberishness!

The advantage with tissues is having a paper fit for the purpose. Toilet roll is meant to disintegrate when it gets wet, tissue holds its form so you don't end up with a hand full of snot. Plus a box of tissues is convenient, looks better than loo roll on the coffee table, and you don't have to put something coated with toilet germs on your face.

Poor misunderstood tissues. If only people listened to them...

No, I don't use toilet roll to blow my nose unless I'm on the toilet or we've run out of tissues. Why would I when I could use tissues instead?

As others say, it's convenient to have them close to hand and they are stronger. I hate loo roll for my nose. I buy nice tissue holder boxes to stick the tissues in though.

Tissues aren't just for snot though, they come in handy when eating a dribbly peach on the settee.

Also, you really don't want to let small children near rolls of toilet paper more often than you can help.... Having tissue boxes on a high shelf means they're easily accessible to mum and dad but can't be unravelled by smaller hands.

Toilet roll makes me sneeze, so it's a bit pointless using it to blow my nose. I'm worse off than before I started.

Why would it make you feel queasy?

a box of tissues cost 50p for wilkos so i dont see how it is cheaper to use loo roll.

We haven't bought any tissue boxes since DD started walking, and reaching on to the table. Its been a good 4 years now, and we've survived. Loo roll for colds and bum, and kitchen rolls for everything else!

My mum used to boil hankies in a pan on the stove.

There is no place in 2012 for hankies IMO.

I don't always have tissues around, but first thing I do when one of us gets a cold is buy some Kleenex Balsam. They are awesome.

my husband uses hankie and give on take the odd new one most of them he has been using for the last 22 years or longer.

Do you just put them in the washing machine with the bogies on cant?
