to think that young people get a bad press

I've just met the 20 year old son of a lady who works in the same place as me (although I don't really know her). The only job he can get is 3 hours a day cleaning in a school, which is a 2 hour walk from home. He earns less than £100 a week, and walks for 20 hours to get there and back. Now I don't know about any of you, but I'm damn sure that I wouldn't do that, and nor would my own 19 year old. I am seriously in awe of this lad.

20 hours? When does he sleep?

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 26/09/2012 15:40

20 hours = 4 hours a day, five days a week.

Well done that lad.

20 hours a week I think OP means, not a day!

Nancy66 · 26/09/2012 15:43

Whoops. Didn't ready properly.

My bad - to use a hated MN phrase.

No, I wouldn't walk 4 hours a day to and from a job.
Appreciate that he is hard working but surely there's a bus / train he can get?

Well done that lad!

Good for him ! It shows he's got guts. If I had a spare job I'd employ him.
