To ask your Sunday traditions?

Now it seems the summer has gone, we had our first sunday roast dinner. We don't normally have one during the summer as we like to be out. I would love to know what other family traditions you all have now the season has changed.

my sunday involves getting up, taking DCs to GPs, going to work, picking DCs up, making a quick tea, ironing uniform & packing lunchboxes, everyone has a shower then DCs go to bed and I, erm, mumsnet

Wednesday is roast day in my house :)

Don't you go out in the Autumn/Winter? I can't imagine not having had a roast dinner all summer. We have them all the time and not just on Sundays ... yummy!

We don't really have Sunday traditions as such but on wet cold miserable days like today we tend to baton down the hatches close the curtains and turn the heating up and have pyjama days

DS and I did make it out of the house for a short walk to the shop to buy milk but I put his rain trousers and coat over his pjs and I wore a big coat over mine ... didn't care who saw me as it was only the local corner shop. The rest of the day was spent playing with his toys and watching Toy Story II

OMG Sundays are just not Sundays without a roast dinner in this house

The only good thing that's come of such a pathetically cold and wet Summer is that we've only missed out on a handful of roasts

sunday is taken over by football then we eat dinner out with DM, DF & friends! love sundays! one of our most used sayings is 'don't let sundays ruin your mondays'!!!

We laze in bed for a bit, have brunch, do some laundry, sometimes mooch round town or go see family then come back for Sunday lunch and sometimes watch a film in the evening. We try and fit some cleaning in there too but don't always manage it

Morning delight. Cooked breakfast. Then out to gaming club. Then home for tea and xbox.

In autumn and winter, we have roast dinner. In spring and summer, we have risotto. Roasts just feel wrong in summer.

In the mornings, dp takes dd1 and dd2 to church, while I laze about look after dd3. In the afternoon we either go for a walk in a large park (sunny weather) or watch a film (rainy).

A lie in for me, DP gets up with the DC. This is because I work on Sunday night. DP takes DS to rugby training, this is new as he has only just started. Soemtimes I go with DD too, sometimes we stay home and have girly time. Chill really, watch films, definately not kids TV but child friendly films. I cooked my first roast today, we eat it at tea time, not lunchtime. The DC had a bath before tea. DP bathed them, I did the dreaded debugging. DP cleared away tea things, I got ready for work. He dropped me to work and went home and put the DC to bed. Pretty much like that every week.

No change for the seasons.

9.30 mass followed by tea and coffee in the hall and a gossip for us and a run around for the children.
Wander down into town for a coffee and a mooch round.
Meet family for lunch and back to someone's house
Home for frantic washing of school uniform and prepare for Monday!

Always a board game before bed.

I try to take dcs swimming fairly early Sunday mornings. Then if it's not another bloody birthday party I tidy up and do a roast.

My pyjama day is Friday, my nan has dc every Thursday night and I don't work Fridays :)

Sunday is a simple day, doing as little as possible. DVD and blankets in the winter hopefully chilling out the back in sunny weather.

Do i really want to spend hours in the kitchen preparing and cooking a roast ( i do sometimes) much prefer a one pot wonder from the slow cooker or BBQ in the summer.

Today we were at the pils.and had a dreadful meal, a chicken concoction MIL does. All the Veg and potatoes were from the freezer and either overcooked or undercooked. Bah!!!

Nothing really changes that much, we still have roast dinners in the summer.

Usually we take kids swimming in morning, the depending on weather go to beach/walk dog/whatever in afternoon. Have roast about 6ish, kids bed/sort out stuff for Monday morning

Rugby in the morning for all those aged under 16, those playing first team at school on Saturdays are excused club rugby, this is sept to april only, the rest of the time i tend to go off competing myself, sometimes with a child to help.

Sunday is recovery day.

Adults, which is currently DH, I and our teen dcs all recover from our various hangovers and late nights. Children entertain themselves, this has been the rule since dcs were born.

We have a roast mid afternoon, various family members and dcs friends turn up throughout day and join us in our lounging about.

We have a 'nice' breakfast. Go to church/Sunday school. Have Sunday lunch with my mum and laze about for the rest of the afternoon.

We don't tend to do that in the summer holidays but as soon as the schools go back we are back in our routine.

It's really relaxing and lovely being able to say - no sorry, we're busy on a Sunday and don't have to go dashing about.

10am mass then out for brunch and the papers with DH and DC's (unless DC's have managed to leave mass with my parents!).

Followed by a wander around town or down the beach, then either DH or I head home to prepare sunday roast and the other does the sainsburys shop.

Sunday nights are a manic 30min of bag packing, uniform locating and checking everyones plans for the following week... then it's kids to bed, a glass of wine and a long bath!

We generally have a quiet hour reading newspapers, perhaps 2 if it is wet and miserable. (It might be DH nipping out for papers and maybe croissants, or we might have to get them when doing the supermarket shop). DD now often reads a Beano at the same time, at the kitchen table with us

Dry Sundays, all year round, we like to go for a walk in the local (hilly and wooded) park. There is a coffee shop along one path, so we (very) often grab a coffee there and sometimes sit or otherwise walk on with it. DD loves to explore through the woods and climb on the rocks.

I do generally do a roast for dinner on a Sunday, and make Monday's dinner as well (spag bol, curry, lasagne, cottage pie, fish pie etc - something that reheats well).

DH does the ironing either while I am finishing dinner or while I clear up afterwards. Sort things out for the week, check the diary, make sure I have a weekly menu planned....
