I've had them at well past 28, both as a teacher and a parent. Long thick curly hair is a haven for lice. I've done my time combing lice out of my daughters' long thick hair and will be so happy for it never to happen again. Ever. Kthanks.

I am constantly worried. I enter the hairdressers on edge. Part of the joy of teaching small children...

It's kids, they're a bloody nightmare honestly. If it's not nits it's a cold or stomach bug. If they ever bring worms home, I'm having them adopted/sending them to the workhouse.

Dh checks my hair every now and again. It was in our marriage vows. Bringing home nits is a very real threat in my job. Now my dds is hairy enough and play schooling I think it's only right that the next generation are nit checked by the experienced professional dh has become and not me. I would DIE if the hairdresser tapped me on the shoulder!

We once had to spend christmas eve with DH going through my hair with a nit comb, not the best one on record. It wasn't even my kids that I got them off.

Never once as a child did I have them. 3 times as an adult. My kids have never had them (ds 6 and 10 - v. short hair)! I don't even work with kids, although I am a Guider. Must stop looking after other people's kids!

I had them for the first time in my life at the age of 34! I was itching like mad. They seem to be much more common now than they were when
I was at school.

I caught them from my niece when she was a toddler and I was single and 25. I had just started seeing this tall dark impossibly handsome bloke, sporty, funny, in the early few weeks of our relationship....

I had to tell him I had nits, he might have nits and we both had to treat our hair one Friday night instead of trotting out for our planned "date" (remember those?). I was convinced he'd dump me, I mean, that's got to be top of the list of passion killers right?

That was 12 years ago and It was our eighth wedding anniversary last week

Ironically in 5 years the kids haven't brought owt back but.. they are boys and I do use clippers on their hair though.

I never had them as a kid but I have had them twice as an adult - I'm a teacher and they are rife in school.

THe first time I got them I was 29 and child-free. I blamed it on going to an anti-CJB demo with a load of crusties, because I discovered the awful truth the next day, but actually I was utterly, utterly hopping with the bastard things so must have had them a lot longer. I expect it was down to bending over to look at goods in a crowded street market.

Oh and I had them most of last summer, at the age of 46 but that was DS's fault.
