Let her and DS stay up and watch Total Wipe out. On the proviso that they go straight to sleep with no fuss after.

She's now trying to come down and wailing when I take her back up.

Had poured the beer, was ready to enjoy some me time. But no, it would seem I am being unreasonable. She's at the living room door as I speak.

Hmmm, I understand your pain. Especially after a long day, non-stop with them, you just want to sit back and think of nobody else.
But having said that, I think we all signed up for this when we decided to have children. Sorry.

I feel your pain, i just want to sit and watch x factor in peace, DP does bedtime but it sitting there with DD2 (7) Playing top trumps so i can't even hear it :( So pissed off. Then he will tae her to bed, read to her for nearly an hour (hes a great dad) and then go and lay on the bed, fall asleep, i'll got to bed, he will wake and then come down and watch TV - result: stressed me and on my own to boot.

Yeah, I should have bought robots with 'off' button instead of having kids.

Dogs are the answer - mine is sat quietly on my lap, keeping me warm, QUIETLY

She is 3 and ds is 5 so this is late for them. Have had my parents staying with me for 3 days, and I can't relax when they are here. They stayed till after bath time and I gave a huge sigh of relief when they'd gone. Had been hanging on with this evening in mind.

Evenings are sacrosanct in this house - luckily DH and I are on the same page and do not tolerate flim-flammery at bedtimes.

Lol - 8pm! Wait till they're teenagers and you have to go out and about after them till midnight!

2 living rooms and Sky multi room is my plan for when they're teens!!

I still feel so guilty that 43 yars ago my DH and I decided that bedtime meant bedtime. Our DD and DS (2 and 3) would come downstairs and eventually realised that they were not allowed into the lounge after bedtime. (Oh dear! Do we call it a lounge now? If not what is it?

I have a lovely photograph of them lying on the hall floor, taken from a few steps up the staircase, outside the lounge door, fast asleep. and we had to carry them upstairs to bed. My DS was wearing pyjamas I had made out of an old striped frock. My now long ago XDH never seemed to think that people close to him wore clothes. My lovely DD once wore a winter coat I had made out of one of my own beautiful winter coats old coats following the instructions of a lovely Italian neighbour.

Oh dear. Why did I post that?

YANU don't you know you're supposed to be on call 24hrs a day!!
You are not allowed to get a full night sleep.
You are not allowed to eat a meal without getting up to get something for someone.
You are not allowed to have beer in the evening.
You are not allowed to watch a full tv program uninterrupted.

And most of all you are NOT allowed to have a cup of tea while it's hot and must reheat it at least once before it's finished.

Those are the rules and must be obeyed!!!!

I bet they're unsettled because grandma and grandad have gone home. DS has been the same ever since DP went back abroad 2 weeks ago :( It's getting slightly better now and he appears to be, at least, staying in bed.

It will pass :) I found it a lot more easy to cope with when I remembered that this time!
