I'm a secondary school teacher and I've worked at my current school since January 2011 as an assistant head of dept. In October 2011, I got a BFP which was very wanted but we weren't expecting it to happen so quickly. The pregnancy was horrendous (hospitalised several times with hyperemesis, on crutches for SPD, blood transfusion for severe anaemia) and I was signed off until I was 29 weeks and then I started my maternity leave.
My dept haven't sent me so much as a card, all I got was a text saying "congrats". I can understand them being pissed off because I was on the sick for so long but I really couldn't help it and I wasn't prepared to put myself or my unborn child at risk.
I now have a 2.5 yr old and a 12 week old, childcare is going to cost a fortune, I'm going to be tired...I don't feel I'd be able to go back full time to my previous role and do a decent job. But, I was employed on a full time basis as an assistant head of dept. AIBU to hope I can return part time purely as a classroom teacher with no additional management role?

I don't think thats unreasonable at all. If your previous job can't be done as a job share or part time then surely your employers have a responibility to find you another role?

I'm not sure on the law, but I don't think YABU at all.
