To Just Not Get Dave Lamb?

Why does everyone seem to rave about his VO on Come Dine? Some reviews for the show have called him "genius" .... Really? Really? What am I missing? He's not funny. His manner reminds me of one of those annoying people who can't let anything pass without making a "funny" sarky comment and you feel duty bound to offer a weak laugh for fear of being deemed to have no sense of humour.

He spoils the show. They should have got Harry Hill.

YABU He makes the show! I spat my dinner out today at something he said. I heardd most of it is written for him these days, but still gives me a giggle. I like him on Horrible Histories Gory Games too :)

I can't abide HH as a stand up but think he's brilliant on YBF.

He's just like the bighead uncle who can't watch you drop a plate without crying delightedly "Oi Oi! Been at the cooking sherry?!" and expecting everyone to fall about at his wit...

As someone who watched the very 1st episodes of CDWM, I now agree with you. He used to be amusing in an understated way, then of course the producers noticed that the commentary was popular so it became overdone. To me he is now a parody of himself.
This is a feature of TV in general, especially reality TV. What begins as original and natural soon becomes overdone and annoying.

I can't watch Big Barn Farm with dd2 anymore as i can't get my head around the fact that he isn't making sarky comments about the animals.

Sometimes he makes me laugh out loud at the tv. Often though these days i get the feeling he is just looking to ridicule the participants for the slightest little thing.

At these times i think 'i'd like to see you cook a decent meal in front of a camera with no script and then have some idiot VO smart arse comments!'.

But Jeremy, he does make sarky comments about the animals just often enough to keep you from wanting to drop a bomb on CBeebies Towers watching.

DL is amazing. It's his timing that makes it so funny. CDWM would be shite without him.

He also pronounces things wrongly all the time (creme patisserie, anyone?) whilst reading out the script which mocks the contestants for bad pronunciation!

That perpetually put on sarky voice, being ever-so-witty all the time is annoying. But then I don't like the show - it's a set up to make people look stupid from start to finish. But I don't have to watch it and they don't have to be on it!
