To think he maybe should have sat somewhere else then?

frivolous, but this annoyed me yesterday!

Took the kids (6 and 2) to an out of town shopping centre yesterday - it has a massive play castle and an owl sanctuary that they love visiting. Took a picnic, settled ourselves on one of the picnic benches near the play area. To set the scene - it was quiet. We were occupying the only bench in our little cluster of five or so. Very nearby are numerous other empty benches and picnic benches.

As we started eating, a chap with one if those small fluffy yappertypedogs (#homagetoizzard) wearing a floral harness, buts a cold drink in a bottle from the snack shed. He then came and sat down right next to us and proceeded to allow the dog to run under our picnic bench, sniff at the kids etc. I have NO problem with this. We like dogs. Dd likes dogs A LOT and us a chatty little thing. She turned around and said hello, introduced herself, started asking questions about the dog. And was received with rude haughtiness of epic proportions. He would answer her questions or engage with her at all, but she's not good at reading social cues so kept in chatting to him and to the dog. The chap kept looking at me as if he expected be to intervene and tell her to shut up it something. Eventually he huffed, got up and went and sat somewhere else.

Now, I don't expect everyone to be as fascinated by my children as I am, but he was just so rude! Fair enough if you don't want to be bothered with small kids either, but then don't choose to sit next to some, at a kids play area, and let your small enticing dog invade their space!

DH thinks his wife has dumped the dog on him to go shopping and he was pissed off Grin

So you were supposed to lurve his intrusive doggy but return treatment by your child was snubbed?

I think your DH was right

LydiasMiletus · 17/09/2012 19:19

I think he was a twat, but seeing he didn't want to engage, your should have stepped in, imo.

diddl · 17/09/2012 19:24

Meh.

I think he was rude.

But then sometimes chatty kids piss me off too.

quoteunquote · 17/09/2012 19:24

Was he deaf?

BiggerAndBadder · 17/09/2012 19:34
