wasteful.. obviously

mean.. because while they may enjoy it at the time, a 1 year old being allowed to stuff its face with sugar for an hour is going to feel ROUGH afterwards!

Ahh forced fun photography, my nemesis.

Incidentally, I've spent 4 years training dd NOT to smash food up.

TroublesomeEx · 17/09/2012 16:14

I am going to be all kinds of judgy about the sort of parent who'd even consider that to be a good idea! Grin

it's only half the story! it doesn't show the blue vomit or the screaming with a sugar come down headache!

what the heck is wrong with a day at the zoo these days?

squeakytoy · 17/09/2012 16:27

Lets see... ummm an hour smashing up a cake, or a day wandering around looking at miserable animals held in captivity...

FuckityFuckFuck · 17/09/2012 16:30

It just looks like the sort of thing Kitty and Tilly's mummy would take them to.

Whilst being Hmm at those going to McDonalds.

Mine would have both been sick if they'd been given free rein to eat cake like that.

lackingNameChangeInspiration · 17/09/2012 16:31

is it the new paintballing-in-wedding dress thing then?

I've kinda stopped socialising with people whose homes are filled with venture type photography so I am v out of touch?

OP posts:
OTheHugeManatee · 17/09/2012 16:32

This is wasted on a one-year-old.

For my next birthday, I would like someone to please bake me a cake of approximately my own body weight, add another 50% weight in buttercream icing, and then take photos as I strip to my underwear and dive headfirst into it before throwing it around the room.

lackingNameChangeInspiration · 17/09/2012 16:34

it makes me laugh that it is to "remember" their first birthday.. but why not do something worth remembering instead??

OP posts:
squeakytoy · 17/09/2012 16:35

The idea is to smash up the cake, not eat it all. Most of it will end up on the floor. The photographer or assistant is the one who gets to clear it all up, and at the end will probably be some great photos..

I really cannot see an issue at all. Nobody is forced to do it, however if you delete your friends on FB, or stop socialising with people because they have a photo in their home that you dont like, then that says a lot more about you than them.. YABU, and sound such a joy! Grin

gothicangel · 17/09/2012 16:37

let me guess you are the owner of kiss the frog?

mmmmmmm

lackingNameChangeInspiration · 17/09/2012 16:40

squeakytoy · 17/09/2012 16:42

I dont see anything wrong with the photos, on either link.

lackingNameChangeInspiration · 17/09/2012 16:43

yer right, there's just too much food and resources in the world... what can be done about it? I know - cake smash!

OP posts:
Convert · 17/09/2012 16:48

It's just a baby and some cake.
It's not your baby.
It's not your cake.
No one is forcing you to have the photos up in your house.
Why does it matter if someone else wants to do this?

Pandemoniaa · 17/09/2012 16:52

This sort of stuff makes my blood boil a bit. But I realise I am probably biased.

StateofConfusion · 17/09/2012 16:52

Its a big craze in america to have two cakes, one for photos candles and posing and one for the baby to maul... My dc ate cake on first birthday, a small slice.

HipHopOpotomus · 17/09/2012 16:53

I think it's stupid - not because its a waste, just because it's totally unappealing and one of these things marketed as being fantastic fun for kiddies, but actually is all about the parents.

To the babies it won't be any different to any other meal or slice of birthday cake? They'd enjoy lots of other things a lot more. But the parents who this will appeal to will think its hilarious and magical and they'll have such "special photos to treasure forever". Gwarf!

SchrodingersMew · 17/09/2012 16:56

What exactly is wrong with this? The babies will most likely not eat more than a spoonfull of the stuff, they will find it much more fun to play with it/smash it up.

The only think I see wrong here is it's a complete waste of money because you could just give them a cake to smash at home and take pictures.

squeakytoy · 17/09/2012 16:58

The people making the cake have been paid for their time. The people producing the ingredients have been paid for their work too..

So it matters very little if the cake is on the floor or in someones belly. Nobody has lost out.

There is not a world shortage of cake.

Slightly wasteful, maybe, but then I am sure with all the BLW that goes on these days, there is an awful lot of unnecessary waste Wink
