Fiddly, annoying, expensive and always running out of ideas, ingredients, snacks and healthy but tasty inspiration. YUK.

Roll on school dinners!

YABU. There's no need to provide Michelin starred food.

Sarnie, yoghurt, fruit. Job done.

squeakytoy · 15/09/2012 20:30

Its a packed lunch, not a luxury picnic. I dont get all the angst people have over something that takes under 5 minutes to do.

Bread with filling, piece of fruit, bottle of water. Done.

WorraLiberty · 15/09/2012 20:31

YABU it only takes a few minutes

susiedaisy · 15/09/2012 20:31

I hate making the packed lunches and washing out the fecking water bottles and sandwich bags, hate it!!

JockTamsonsBairns · 15/09/2012 20:32

Yanbu at all. I absolutely detest doing the packed lunches. Been doing them for around 9 years, every sodding night/morning, trying to think of new ideas. Hate it, hate it, hate it.

toptramp · 15/09/2012 20:32

I only do the basics believe me; sandwiches, cucumber and carrot, yogurts etc snack pots but god it's so tedious even with these basics. Like I said roll on school dinners; hot food and way cheaper than packed lunch crap. One less chore for me in the morning.

Running out of ideas and 'tasty inspiration'?Confused

You are overthinking this. Mine get sarnie, fruit, biscuit, crisps (sometimes), water.

If we've had pasta the night before sometimes they get whatever was leftover.

I just do lunches on automatic pilot.

ElectricSoftParade · 15/09/2012 20:35

I started paying for school lunches instead of making up the DC's packed lunches.

Their choice of school lunch was a sandwich. Hmm They are back on packed lunches now.

I still dislike making them though.

toptramp · 15/09/2012 20:35

Sandwich making alone id the work of the devil and what poor sod wants to live on cold sandwiches every day when they could be getting gammon and chips at school?

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 15/09/2012 20:36

'Poor sods' don't live on sandwiches in this house.

They take them to school for lunch.

topknob · 15/09/2012 20:37

I hate doing them, deteste it ! but needs must.

toptramp · 15/09/2012 20:37

I don't spend hours agonsing over snacks to put in lunch but it is a detestable chore having to compile them anyway. All those bitty bits like petit filous (or any yougurt).I just hate making sandwiches basically. I don't buy sushi and peeled grapes for example.

redwhiteandblueeyedsusan · 15/09/2012 20:38

it takes 5 minutes to do one packed lunch... yet it hangs over me like damocles' sword

WorraLiberty · 15/09/2012 20:38

But you don't have to make the petit filous Lol

You just have to take it from the fridge and pop it in the lunch box.

toptramp · 15/09/2012 20:39

I would rather dd was getting cooked at school because she picks at my obviously revolting home cooked food. Mabe that's what it is!? Except my mates love my food. I just hate the faff in the morning.

Oh but buying all the bits like petit filous and mini fucking baby bell etc is an expensive fag too!

OP posts:
thepeoplesprincess · 15/09/2012 20:40

I often wish my kids got cooked at school too.

OscarPistoriusGirlfriend · 15/09/2012 20:40

We tried it for a term. Hated it. Ds1 would always say oh mummy I'm bored of cheese sandwiches, so I would ask him what he's prefer, he had a think and said

Cheese butties.

He is back on school dinners.

I'd cut out the fag because you're right, the price of tobacco is atrocious...

beautyguru · 15/09/2012 20:43

I hate it too! A necessary bore and I don't even have choice bout school dinners as dd's school don't do them!! Not sure why such a simple thing bugs me so much..it just does!!

CremeEggThief · 15/09/2012 20:44

YABU. Under 5 minutes per person per lunch while you make dinner the night before. Two or three different fillings per week is plenty too.

WerthersUnOriginal · 15/09/2012 20:45

I'm never too convinced whether a school lunch is being eaten by my dc. They also don't fit round us because we eat a main meal in the evening. They do have one now and again though if I run out of bread or we get up late.

IKilledIgglePiggle · 15/09/2012 20:47

Packed lunches are irrationally annoying, it's something that should be straight forward but that fills one with dread.

I have a weird bit of OCD where I have to have them all done by 7am, I feel all fuzzy when I have done them......saddo.
