to think Gumtree is more trouble than it's worth

We are skint so I have put a few things on Gumtree.
I have sold one thing, for a tenner. The other things have been a nightmare of people who say they're coming round and dont't turn up, people being late then coming and saying they don't want the item after staying half an hour, people saying they're interested and when can they come round then not replying to you....I don't have the energy any more! Is it just me, or does it require a lot of patience that I maybe don't have?

Nope...not just Gumtree, used to happen to me years ago when I advertised stuff through the local free sheet.

SoleSource · 13/09/2012 13:23

Gumtree does attract a lot of con peopke too. More than any other site/paer etc I have used. Be careful. Looking for a gardener on there at moment nightmare!

GoldPedanticPanda · 13/09/2012 13:27

I completely agree with you OP! It's been great for buying stuff but selling has been a nightmare.

Just waited in for two hours, having rearranged something else, for idiot who didn't bother turning up - she'd asked me to keep something for her till today 'when she got paid' and I'd told others that it had gone. Grr.

I eventually had a rule of first to come with the money gets it. No I won't wait for you to get here, and not turn up, etc.

I got my car off gumtree. 36,000 on the clock and good as new only for 2k. Best bargain ever. You just have to read people to avoid the con artists.

I put an ad up advertising my services as a babysitter.

I got one reply from a bloke asking if I'd consider giving him a massage for £100 cash.

Er. No.
