I ordered some shoes from an independent shoe store (small chain). They didn't have the colour I wanted in my size in my local store but said they would arrange for them to come from another store.

Firstly they didn't call me back to confirm that they had arranged this (as they promised faithfully they would) and I had to ring them. It is now 10 days later and the shoes are no where to be seen. I've rung the shop and they aren't in store yet.

I've had a job interview since then and have an important trip away to scope out another job tomorrow I had hoped that I might have been able to wear these shoes (as my existing pair in this colour have seen better days).

AIBU to expect this process to take less than 10 days (the stores are < 25 mile s apart) and had I known it was going to take this long I would have either 1) driven there myself or 2) bought them from a different retailer over the internet.

The only reason I didn't do the internet option was because I believe strongly in supporting local retailers.

...and therein lies the problem! I too like to support my local shops but they arent so "on demand" as when i shop around on the internet. you have to decide either to go for local, with good service and a good relationship for the future or internet and likely as not none of the above. did they know how vital the deadline was?

Did you pay for them in advance?

No.

They didn't want payment in advance (I offered).

Yes, they knew it was important. I mentioned the job interview.
