...because I've nipped to the loo to write this. PIL over for dinner, sitting with nice wine chit chatting. Kids in bed, bliss. MIL asks if we can put on the telly because she DOESN'T WANT TO MISS EASTENDERS! WTF?! Jesus effing Christ, is it me or what? This shit isn't normal right?

Guests it would be rude, but family not so much.

LadySybildeChocolate · 10/09/2012 20:25

Oh, that's so sad. She really needs to get out more. Tell her there's a repeat on at some point.

Peggotty · 10/09/2012 20:25

My mum would do this.

Trills · 10/09/2012 20:25

Teach her how to use iPlayer.

kinkyfuckery · 10/09/2012 20:25

It's half an hour. Tell her she can watch that then the telly goes off. Maybe she just likes to sit and chill for half an hour after eating?

IvanaNap · 10/09/2012 20:25

Introduce her to iPlayer.

Bobyan · 10/09/2012 20:26

I've had a friend awhile ago ask to move to the lounge to watch The Bill!!!

MerryCosIWonaGold · 10/09/2012 20:26

Old people get addicted to these things. My Grandma was the same with Emmerdale. Can't stand soaps myself, but I do understand some people never miss. My Dad would probably do it if it were football, which is just as bad really.

ll31 · 10/09/2012 20:28

why not be nice and let her watch it ... not rude when she-s family.... prob she feels really comfortable with you ,doesn't realise you're criticising her behind her back

HoopDePoop · 10/09/2012 20:30

Not rude, not out of order, in fact it's nice that she feels at home enough to assume she can relax and watch it Smile

I hate soaps personally except Hollyoaks but each to their own.

mumofjust1 · 10/09/2012 20:30

BBC3 at 10pm!

HeadfirstOverTheHighJump · 11/09/2012 00:23

Wouldn't be a problem in our house, especially not for one of our parents. It's half an hour.

ceeveebee · 11/09/2012 00:38

My mum would do this with Emmerdale or Corrie, but not Eastenders, has your MIL got no taste??

WorraLiberty · 11/09/2012 01:09

Lol at someone taking a mobile phone to a toilet to post a thread on an internet forum, asking if something's not normal....

I don't watch soaps because they don't interest me but even I don't think there's anything wrong with a family member asking if she can spend half an hour watching it.

GoldenBabooshka · 11/09/2012 01:32

:o Worra.

My MIL got up from a dinner she had spent all day cooking herself last new years day to do the same.

I grabbed my wine and a stuffing ball and followed her into the sitting room laughing my arse off.

It's not rude, just have a wee giggle at it.

BabylonPI · 11/09/2012 01:40

She must be as intrigued as me to know who dirty Kat is straddling behind the lovely Alfie's back Grin

(but I missed it tonight, so who is it please?)

BlackholesAndRevelations · 11/09/2012 07:47

Babylon- still a mystery (and getting boring now!) even tried to google for spoilers but no luck

Op- I'd have just let her watch it, poor woman!
