to take dd to Olympic parade

instead of going to school?

She really wants to go. She got so into the whole Olympics and Paralympics. She has been so inspired she now wants to join an athletics club and be the next Jess Ennis.

I do really want to go too but mainly I really can't bare the idea of trying to get to school on that day. We live one side of the route and school is on the other. We have been massively inconvienienced by all the road closures here for 2 months now, due to the beach volleyball and the events on the Mall and pick up time is just when the parade is expected to reach this area.

And wasn't one of the legacies of the games supposed to be 'to inspire the next generation', so why are they doing the parade when the next generation are going to be in school?

She's 7 by the way.

I know its rubbish isn't it? I thought they were going to encourage schools to come though? I must admit if I lived where you do, I would be very tempted to take dd out of school. Just don't get caught on camera!

Just in case you don't know (I'm sure you do) I believe there are only small parts of the route where the public can watch.

They can't expect everyone to hangaround til the following weekend for a parade! And they can't do it earlier

I'm normally very against taking children out of school for holidays etc, but even I don't think YABU. The Olympics in this country isn't going to happen agin for a long time, and your dd will remember the parade for a long time. Definatly go for it, it will be well worth it.

I too think is a shame it is going to be on a Monday, but I understand why it is.

Thanks pinkteddy, unfortunately the ticketed bit is where we are which will make it even harder to get across, we are going to walk into the city to try and get a spot.

BlackberryIce, who needs to hang around? Why can't Londoners get a chance to enjoy the parade, after all we are the ones who have paid for it, had to put up with all the inconvienienced and most of us didn't even get any tickets.

The people that would have to hang around are the people that are in the parade! Not all of team GB live in London, nor do the military personnel, the fire and ambulance crews that have been involves, the games makers, everyone! They will all be in the parade.

wherearemyGOLDsocks · 06/09/2012 20:05

Ok, I see your point there. I didn't know the ambulance and fire crews weren't from London though. But all the athletes already left, they will be coming back for the parade so could come back any day.
