Whopping cough

Posting here for traffic

I have a poorly baby 9 month old baby. Not sleeping well but tired. Sniffly. Few coughs.

We were at a group on Monday and a lady there had whooping cough in the family, though fairly sure she had stayed away from others till she thought she was uncontagious.

Am I being pfb to worry? Incubation would take longer wouldn't it?

Any reassurance?

Hasn't your DD had her vaccination? :)

Yikes thought I posted this in chat!

Um yes I guess she must have been now you mention it! She is fully vaccinated for her age. However a google search (unwise?) informs me that some current strains arent covered by the vaccinations...

I wouldn't worry.

More than likely she is fine :)

Thanks :) I will blame sleep deprivation for turning me neurotic.

Pertussis has quite a long incubation period so any cough she has now is not whooping cough she caught on Monday! However, it is probably worth knowing the symptoms as the vaccine is not very effective (somewhere between 30% and 60% of those vaccinated will develop immunity) and most people diagnosed with whooping cough have been vaccinated.

Thanks Lamazaroo. I thought it would be far too early for symptoms but just a bit over wary of the coincidence.
