should realise that dropping their fag ends is dropping litter and it's just as bad as dropping a crisp packet. Ciugarette ends are not biodegradable.

I am sure most smokers do realise it actually.

I don't usually like smoker basher threads however this one I do agree with. I saw a talk once about how many cigarette butts end up in the sea and the toxins they give off, its horrible.

I thought it was illegal but had come to conclusion I must be mistaken because of the amount of dog ends I still see everywhere.

Our city is enforcing strictly the 'no butts' laws - and, importantly, is also providing public ashtrays (on top of litter bins) where people can stub out and dispose. It's really nice in the centre of town these days to look at clean streets with no cigarette debris to speak of.

Oh it's disgusting.... biggest pollutant on the beaches too... the poor seagulls et all choke on them.

There are alot f on the spot fines given out in my town and the situation has definitely improved.

They do it on the motorway too. Idiots.

Yanbu - I do think most smokers know. More bins should have the metal try thing for tabs.

I have a friend who used to drop them in my GARDEN! Just chucked them on the lawn.

I stopped inviting her round.

She has quit now though, I am proud of her for that.

Also have another friend who when she first came round smoked in my garden but I hadn't provided an ashtray. Found out a few weeks later that she'd taken her dog ends home!

I remember as a child picking them up and pretending to smoke with them.

Any litter, fag ends, chewing gum, sweet wrappers, should be properly disposed of. I absolutely hate litter.

People moan that my car is like a skip, because I would rather chuck stuff on floor than out of the window, and then clear it out into the bin after..

I also remember the 'cool kids' at school took up smoking. They would scour the street looking for dog ends with a bit left to smoke.

I kid you not.

Honestly, if putting bits of litter in your gob and trying to light it made you cool then quite franky I'm glad I was the 'black sheep'.

IT GIVES ME RAGE!! when I see people drop wrappers as they leave a sweet shop, through rubbish from ther cars, get up from a picnic and leave a flotilla of detritus behind them. And don't even start with fly tipping.

According to my completely batty smoking neighbour smokers are doing a kindness to homeless people who cannot afford cigarettes but can pick up the butts in the street.

Our local Council gives on the spot fines if you are caught. However, some of those that get caught go bleating to the local rag about, moaning about "jobsworths" "council seeing them as a source of revenue", etc, etc

I also cannot believe the litter around our local McDonalds. Plenty of bins around, but the locals blame the company for the litter, instead of the anti social arseholes that open their car doors and dump their shite on the ground.

Mine too. Also, if there are none of those bins with ashtrays on the top I stub my cigarette out and put the nub in a normal bin.
