Have just come back from holiday, and the Disney repeats are on again. I would pay extra to have the other channels without this torture.

Seriously thinking of cancelling Sky, although my kids will probably hate me for it.

YANBU Its all a load of crap, i even can't stand channel 5 with its bloody adverts every 2 mins. Don't even get me started on those dreadful Lelly Kelly shoes ones!

I have the basic virgin package which only has cbeebies, itv and 5 for kids. My four year old DD knows no different, although i do worry that when she goes to school she might be a bit of a square not knowing who sodding Dora the explorer and the like are!

flatpackhamster · 28/08/2012 19:40

It's a paid-for service, isn't it? You're not required to have it by law? Scrap it. If the kids hate it, tell them that when they leave home they can watch whatever they want.

BrianCoxIsUpTheDuff · 28/08/2012 19:46

I cancelled my sky subscription recently.

I watched Sky Atlantic and the standard channels you can get on Freeview.

Everything else is just repeats.

DD wasn't happy, but I refuse to have to pay for constant crap repeats of endless rubbish kids programs.

She moaned for about 2 days on and off and then forgot about it Grin

Freeview - it's the way forward.

BrianCoxIsUpTheDuff · 28/08/2012 19:47

*you find that channel 5 often have the Disney shows on during weekend mornings, albeit about 3 years out of date but considering children will happily watch endless repeats, they'll be happy!

Himalaya · 28/08/2012 19:47

BrianCox - yes I think you are right. Maybe Freeview plus Lovefilm....

I have FV plus Netflix at the moment. Plus BBC iPlayer (although it is crap, always stalling!)

I was going to drop Netflix next month and give Lovefilm a shot - trust me, it's worth it.

If you have sport-watchers in the household, you can also get SKY Sports 1 and 2 on FV at an extra cost.

Mrsdoasyouwouldbedoneby · 28/08/2012 19:49

We will be cancelling ours once we have a freeview box with recorder. Kids will also whine but frankly tough. I do not let them watch it all the time but am already singing the jake and the Neverland pirates themetune in my sleep.

hiddenhome · 28/08/2012 19:50

We've never had Sky and it hasn't done my two any harm. They don't even know these crappy channels exist.

TheWave · 28/08/2012 19:50

Yes, don't have it of course. Advice for those whose children are young, just don't let them know your television receives all this stuff. They won't die for lack of Disney exposure.

Himalaya · 28/08/2012 19:52

You all sound like you have younger kids?.... I strongly advise you to cancel before they get into the teen stuff, which is atrocious (apart from Phineas and Ferb Grin)

Walt Disney was a pedophile anyway

BrianCoxIsUpTheDuff · 28/08/2012 19:55

Of course they won't die, it's all about choices though isn't it.

I got Sky because, having never had it as a child/teen/grown-up, it was nice to be finally able to afford it.

I didn't mind DD watching the channels.

My gripe is the endless repeats, you pay for repeat after repeat.

May as well get Freeview.

BrianCoxIsUpTheDuff · 28/08/2012 19:55

Phineas and Ferb - best theme tune EVER! Grin
