DB, moved way, up country to be near his GCs.

GCs now grown up, doing their own thing, don't need GD babysitting etc.

DB sick of living in an employment black spot, with crap weather that affects his health and wants to come back to London.

DB not one for giving me chapter and verse of financial details, I know he has HB, I know work is very sporadic (he takes any work), and looking at him, he looks malnourished.

Text tonight (quote) "I'm pissed off living here now, cant afford to come home" home being London.

I'm not versed at all in this, but if he gives up the tenancy of his bedsit, he can surely come back here, still get HB and rent again?

advice please on how to proceed.

He's a single man, no partner or children living with him, currently unemployed.

Yes he can claim Hb but he would have moving costs presumably along with needing to find a deposit and first months rent for any new property.

I agree with princess but your db needs to check the local lha rates (the maximum amount of hb he would qualify for for a private let) and compare these to the prices of properties that are available as there are limits to how much he could claim. He could check these by phoning the housing benefit department of the local authority for the area in London he is moving too or online.
