To consider working away from home for 3 days a week?

I'm really unhappy at work and there are no jobs where we live in my field. Now my dream job has come up in a place two hours away. It's Fr,Sat, Sun, so apart from Fridays we'd have no more childcare worries. Howvere, it's too far to commute but my parents live nearby so I would be able to stay with them two nights a week. My husband said go for it so I put an application in but now we're both getting cold feet. I'm worrying about not seeing the kids enough, and he's worried about seeing them too much!! It would be good to always be there to take them to school and pick them up and never have to miss trips and plays etc. But is giving up weekends together too much of a sacrifice?
Anyone else done anything similar??

Do it! If it's really too much after you've given it a proper go you can always quit, butt in the meantime you've kept your skills current and made it more likely you'll be considered for a post closer to home. And maybe your family could join you at your parents every once in a while?

Do it :-)

My DH worked days and I worked nights for a while and it wasn't good. The kids hated never having 'family days' too as we were basically tag teaming with the childcare but never spending any family time, and the kids started trying to play us off against each other as we were rarely together they started the whole 'But Daddy does....' or 'Mummy says we don't have to do....'. I wouldn't do it again, but then I wasn't working in my dream job. Its a tough call. I would start by writing a pros vs cons list and go from there.
