To tell everyone that I'm 38

firemansamisnormansdad · 22/08/2012 20:27

when really I'm 47?

OP posts:
McHappyPants2012 · 22/08/2012 20:28

why

Maat · 22/08/2012 20:29

Why though?

I'd rather be looking good for 47.

NickNacks · 22/08/2012 20:29

Surely you should tell them you're 61 and get loads of compliments about how great you look for 61 instead of people thinking you're a bit ropey for 38?

firemansamisnormansdad · 22/08/2012 20:33

Hahha NickNacks, I've got a 5 year old. Now that WOULD cause gossip on the school run!!!

So you'd be caught out a bit in any conversation about the past, wouldn't you?

I think it's fair enough not to discuss/reveal your age in general conversation (not that I would remember to do this), but I wouldn't lie about it.

What happens when it's your "real" 50th or your "pretend" 40th?

Nah! Just embrace your age. It's only a number.

MrsCampbellBlack · 22/08/2012 20:49

Of course not - I'm 24 and Jessican Ennis is my body double. Seriously - her abs - like looking in a mirror

LadyBeagleEyes · 22/08/2012 20:50

Why Op?

scentednappyhag · 22/08/2012 20:51

I've been telling people I'm 18 for so long I sometimes forget how old I really am Grin
People believe me less and less nowadays though Sad

NowThenWreck · 22/08/2012 20:53

Why do you need to tell them anything?
I operate on a "need to know" basis.
Who's business is it how old you are?

MrsKeithRichards · 22/08/2012 20:54

I believed my dad was 17 until I was about 10

LAK11 · 22/08/2012 20:59

Oh FFS i am so much older, approaching 50. Are you a troll.... I am a newbie, but have my first ever Biscuit

tittytittyhanghang · 22/08/2012 21:08

No, i used to tell everyone I was 22 for years, then last year i upped it to 24 to keep it real Grin

RobinSparkles · 22/08/2012 21:18

When I was five I believed that both my mum and Gran were 21! How the hell would that work?!? My mum was almost 36 when I was born.

I'm 38. I have been for many years and intend to remain 38 for many more years to come.

Isn't this what Caprice (38) and Geri Haliwell have to do - stage a '40th birthday party' about seven years too late, just because otherwise it starts looking as if they're in some kind of Dr Who style time suspension?

fruitysummer · 23/08/2012 11:48

I knock years off my age, it's easier than trying to convince people of my real age.

I tell people i'm 37 and they think I'm making it up why the fuck would you?? they all think I'm in my late twenties.

I therefore just tell them I'm 31, they accept it and we can carry on the conversation!

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 23/08/2012 11:51

I've been 21 since I was 21 Grin and this year I was 21 twice!
I don't often find my age coming up in ordinary every day conversation though - am I doing it wrong?

LaurieFairyCake · 23/08/2012 11:51

I tell everyone I'm 40 (true) - that's because I look 30 and enjoy the looks of disbelief. No one ever believes I'm 40.

Feminine · 23/08/2012 11:54

I always tell the truth as I look so young for my age Wink

my DH tries to lie as he looks nowhere near his age, and people think he is trying to wind them up. Confused

SoleSource · 23/08/2012 11:54

I like 38 I am staying here.

Latara · 23/08/2012 12:24

I'm 36 today; happy to say that me & my bestie got chatted up by 2 men (who said they were 41) on NYE; they asked our age (how rude!) but my friend said the truth, that she was 36 & i was 35. The men misheard due to the music & said ''no, you look to young to be 25; you're lying!'' Hehehe... (smug). Although they were quite pissed (ok, not so smug...).

But no, i don't lie about my age - but i do look young (especially if wearing no make up, & hair up in a loose bun at work) & i hate the horrified way people react to hearing my real age :(
36 is very young actually (but most of my colleagues & patients are over 50 & think that if you're not married with kids by 30 then you've 'failed' - ffs).
