To feel fed up, totally and utterly fed up....

I've got a broken ankle. I need help to shower, go to the toilet, I can't do anything with the kids (5 &2) as I'm non weight-bearing.

It's been 2 weeks now and I've had enough. The bloody crutches hurt, it's murder getting up the stairs, my leg is itchy under the plaster and I'm in constant pain from all the metalwork the surgeon put in.

That's my self indulgent, self pitying rant over. It has been a real eye opener using a wheelchair etc. and encountering the daily struggle that disabled people face on a permanent basis. I know I'm lucky this is only temporary and I will never take my mobility and being pain-free for-granted again.

Bloody itchy leg.

Sorry to hear that. How long do you have to wait?

Dont stick anything down the cast to itch your leg. Sorry you're fed up , but you will mend. x

Oh I do understand as I broke my foot a few years ago.

Regarding the crutches hurting, if it's the palm of your hands that are hurting then wrap the handles of the crutches in some padding. I had terrible blisters until I did this. Also I found it really helpful to use a big dolls pram to put things in, then push around downstairs. It just makes you a bit more independent.

Are you taking any painkillers?

I know I'll mend eventually - about another 6 weeks til I won't need a cast. And I'm being very good and not poking anything down the cast. Mind over matter....

Op of you can get hold of some vet wrap and two dish sponges your life will be infinitely more comfortable. Just wrap the sponges onto the crutch, the vet wrap won't slip.

quick yeah, tramadol and cocodamol. The painkillers of the devil, I didn't do a poo for 10 days.... All sorted now and I've changed to diclofenac and paracetamol. Keeping my happy tramadol for bedtime only!

Good hint about wrapping the handles, will get DH on he case!
