It's my due date.

Im seeing my MW tonight at local birth centre (Arranged this earlier on the phone) she said she'd see me there and give me a "good hard sweep" then she said "one that will get you moving"

I can say no to that right?!

Of course you can, perhaps she assumes by their due date, most women want the baby out as soon as possible!

Sweeps aren't that bad, promise!

You can definitely say no.

The idea of a sweep gave me nightmares when I was pregnant, but the midwives I saw didn't sound very keen either as I was due around Christmas. I think I might have had the worlds most squeamish midwife too.

maddening · 20/08/2012 15:01

you can say no of course - the sweep for me really wasn't that bad and once you're in labour (for me anyway) the internal checks weren't that different.

there's every chance she won't be able to anyway if you're not favourable

I've had them before. This is Dc3 but it was how she said it that worried me!!!!

If you don't want a sweep, you don't need to have one. I wouldn't have one at 40 weeks

Yes, you can say no.

I was in a simelar situation with ds1 when the hospital wanted to induce me earlier than I wanted, and it didn't occur to me that I could say no until I rang my lovely community midwife in tears. When she said that I coudk just ask for another date I was worried that they would be cross with me for it, but they weren't, it was fine.

Just tell your MW when you turn up that you would rather wait a bit longer before you have a sweep, and ask what time she can see you next week.
