To have stopped dh mowing the lawn

At ten to eight on a Sunday night with a petrol strimmer (i.e. it sounds like a motorbike engine - a really loud motorbike engine at that).

He says AIBU, I say I am being considerate... ds is trying to get to sleep in a room overlooking the garden for a start. If it were a neighbour doing it I'd be annoyed.

Do you live opposite me? The inconsiderate man opposite me has just stopped after I've spent the last 30 minutes trying to soothe my DS who woke up thanks to the mower!

Wigglewoo · 19/08/2012 19:54

I wish we had neighbours like you! I've just put ds aged 9 weeks to bed with our lovely (cough) neighbours drunkedly singing their head off - went on last nigth till 3am! Fucks sake!!

Tell your dh to do it another day.

GaryTankCommander · 19/08/2012 19:55

You are considerate, your DH needs to understand 7:50pm a Sunday night is not suitable mowing time!

You can't live opposite me because I can hear he's started on his back garden now!

TheHeirOfSlytherin · 19/08/2012 19:56

He'd only just started it up when I went out there and told him to put it away. If your neighbour was my dh I'd have given him hell on your behalf gary

Thank you slytherin. Smile

Tbh i was pissed off when my neighbour stopped as the noise was soothing him!

on a serious note i think yabu as its not that late but you are being very nice and neighbourly.

TheHeirOfSlytherin · 19/08/2012 20:01

I had to ask because my mum had a real issue with noise and wouldn't even let us use the hair dryer after dark, which I think is a bit extreme tbh Grin.

I don't think 7.50pm is too late to be mowing the lawn but perhaps a bit late for a petrol strimmer; we have one and it's bloody noisy!

t0lk13n · 19/08/2012 21:14

My husband works nights so sometimes two pm/11am etc is too early to do it!

diddl · 19/08/2012 21:15

Not allowed to mow the lawn here on a Sunday-or a public holiday.

Although Mon-Sat it´s OK 7amShock to 8pm.

Unless what you´re using isn´t European environmentally friendly, then it´s only allowed mon-fri 9-1 & 3-5

BUT
YABU to have a powered mower at all when modern push mowers are now so good and cost nothing to run and are better for your health and are much much qieter

coconutparadise · 19/08/2012 22:34

DH was going to mow ours at 9.00 this morning and I stopped him. Next door have teens, like we do, lots in the street have no kids and if I was having a lie in on a Sunday morning I'd be annoyed at being woken at 9.00 by a petrol mower!
