...to blitz the housework.
House is a shit hole bit of a mess. We have been away camping, I have been working, DC's home etc etc. So I decided to attack with a vengance as we have guest coming for dinner.
But I'm bloody MELTING Blush
Housework should be illegal in this heat.

I had no choice. Dp "forgot" he had invited people ti dinner. Garden looks like the local landfill and the house is an explosion in a toy factory.

Not impressed!!!

I started scrubbing the soot off the bricks next to the log burner but gave up after 8 minutes and 4 changes of water. The washer is running, the bin is outside for the binmen/ladies tomorrow and that's about it. You should sit down and have some Wine You work far too hard.

CaliforniaLeaving · 19/08/2012 17:36

LadySybil what have you been doing to the bricks? You shouldn't have so much soot.
I vacuum the bricks around our log burner usually cause they get spider webs on, and only had to wash them down once recently (in 19 years of living here) as Dd had split something on the ones on the floor under.
I hate housework no matter what the weather, but in the heat I'm useless at it. throw a bit of laundry in and thats about it.

CaliforniaLeaving · 19/08/2012 17:36

Thats spilt not split.

LadySybildeChocolate · 19/08/2012 17:44

I've used it three times, the bricks were black when I moved in (couple of months now). Sad I've been trying to sort the house out. I bought some glass cleaner which has worked really well on the door and some of the lighter covered bricks, it's caked onto the back wall though. The wooden floors are damaged; scratches on one, worn away varnish on another. Windows haven't been touched for a long while, as they were filthy also. I used my dyson on the carpet outside the bathroom and it filled the dust cannister. There's still loads to do, including the bricks around the log burner. I'm tempted to get the professionals in when I can afford it.

Makes me wonder if there is a blockage with all that soot coming in the house. Mine gets used 24 hours a day in winter, I have to empty it hot when it gets too full to be able to get wood in. We've never had any soot anywhere even when Dh has opened it at the wrong moment and let in a bot of smoke. We also clean the chimney pipe every spring.

I was told that the chimney was swept at the start of the year. Is there a way to check if there's a blockage apart from to call someone out? The wall behind it is black!
