Birthday plans sabotaged

I'm visiting father and stepmum with DD and DH and tomorrow a small gathering has been planned in my honour for my birthday. We've travelled a good way for it. A few of the people who might have come now can't so stepmum has invited some of her nearest and dearest. Nice people but I don't know them well and as one of them has just got engaged they won't be the slightest interested in my birthday, so now it's just kind of us at an engagement party. AIBU to want just a teeny bit of limelight?

just unfortunate but i'm sorry your birthday has been pushed aside.

AgentZigzag · 18/08/2012 22:02

YABU to describe it as an honour for people to gather for your birthday Grin

Why not keep banging on about it remind people at various times throughout the gathering that they're there for you not the person who got selfishly engaged when you want the limelight.

I doubt the party will become an engagement party. Unless your mum write "Happy Birthday ABLC and Congratulations to X&Z", it will be your birthday party. Try not worry and just enjoy. Hope you have a nice day.

BulldogDrummond · 19/08/2012 08:45

If you don't like to idea, go home.

BulldogDrummond · 19/08/2012 08:45

*the idea

iscream · 19/08/2012 08:45

Correction- Should have said " Unless your mum writes "Happy Birthday ABLC and Congratulations to X&Z" on the cake.

Clytaemnestra · 19/08/2012 09:33

Wear a really big badge that says "It's my birthday". Preferably a musical one. And a hat.

Don't let anyone forget it's your special day and if you don't like it, it's YOUR birthday and you can cry if you want to.

OhNoMyFoot · 19/08/2012 09:36

Get some banners and balloons that say happy birthday, along with hats and a cake

FutTheShuckUp · 19/08/2012 09:37

YABU to be upset if you are over the age of 7. People gathering in honour of your birthday?? Are you a head of state?

Pooka · 19/08/2012 09:40

Grin at clytaemnestra!

Yy - take party blower (as well as the badge) and if anyone goes off topic of your birthday, you can blow it loudly to bring everyone back to the big event.

FannyMcNee · 19/08/2012 09:56

Well no, they probably "won't be the slightest bit interested" in your birthday, but it is just a birthday. You can't blame people for being more interested in an engagement.

Don't worry OP, you'll have more birthdays.

headinhands · 19/08/2012 09:59

Are you 7?

AmazingBouncingFerret · 19/08/2012 09:59

Even if the people hadnt of got engaged I still wouldnt of been the slightest bit interested in your birthday, I'm there for the cake and wine Grin
