Facebook - Relationship Status

AIBU to think that Facebook relationship status' are a minefield?!

I mean, if you leave it blank does it look like you're trying to hide it?
If you put "in a relationship" is it tacky/immature?
Do you wait until you're engaged/married before even touching it??

How do you know when the time is right to change that status? or should it just be left blank once you're over the age of 16? Grin

I think it's sweet to put that you're, 'in a relationship' and it also stops the boundaries from blurring when exes 'pop up' on chat

Kladdkaka · 16/08/2012 17:46

I've been married for 6 years and still haven't updated to being in a relationship.

I also keep rejecting requests from my siblings to confirm I'm their sister, but that's a whole other thread :o

Kayano · 16/08/2012 17:46

I'm one of those pathetic people who changed my status to married outside the church Blush

I'm down as 'married ' and DH has never bothered.

JeezyPeeps · 16/08/2012 18:01

Mine is intentionally uncompleted. I don't know why anyone that currently doesn't know my relationship status would need to know.

Paiviaso · 16/08/2012 18:42

I find it a bit worrying to use because as soon as you break up, EVERYONE will know about it. When I was at university, relationship status was a useful stalking tool though :P Now in my late 20's, its not useful.

I am "in a relationship" but with no one in particular. DP has nothing listed and doesn't really use Facebook. To be honest, the only reason I have it listed is to show my exboyfriends that I've moved on and forgotten all about them...mostly true...!

LurkeyLurkerson · 16/08/2012 18:45

Kayano You know it's only official when it's on FB!

Emmielu · 16/08/2012 18:46

Mines been hidden since December last year. Only a few people know I'm in a relationship & that's my close friends, family, bfs close friends & his family. If we both changed it or one of us did then there would be other peoples opinions shoved around this lovely little town all of which hits back to me. I like the peaceful life of not telling people that don't need to know. Grin

exexpat · 16/08/2012 18:49

I'm with jeezypeeps. Really don't see why you need it - anyone who knows me knows my relationship status, anyone who doesn't, doesn't need to know; why put it up there as well? It does look a bit juvenile to me (last time I looked, DS was 'married' to one of his best friends, and had tons of siblings I'd never heard of - I suppose that's one way of using it...).

Gruffy · 16/08/2012 18:50

I once had someone I was seeing end it with me because I didn't change my relationship status. Apparantly it meant I wasn't serious about him. Muppet.

WelshCat · 16/08/2012 19:24

ah i think its cute :) me and one of my exes had the 'exclusive' chat by him asking me if i wanted to change my facebook status to 'in a relationship'. bless him. it was cute. he was about 18 though so that may explain it.

confusedpixie · 16/08/2012 20:04

Your username just freaked me out. That's what DP and I were planning to call our joke joint FB account Shock (I'm Nikki, he's Nick!)

& YANBU, I agree. Mine didn't even get a chance to change from 'In a relationship' after my last break up Blush

SuperB0F · 16/08/2012 20:07

I leave mine blank. Nobody's business.

squeakytoy · 16/08/2012 20:39

If you are aged between 13 and 15 you are usually in a relationship with, or married to your best schoolmate, with another 368 siblings...

By 16 to 19 you are in a revolving "in a relationship" or "its complicated" on an almost daily basis..

After that it tends to settle down a bit, and people in their 40's like me, dont really care what the status says.. lol!

usualsuspect · 16/08/2012 20:41

Mines blank.

Kabooooom · 16/08/2012 21:03

Mine is blank, too.

I think

LottoQueen · 16/08/2012 21:07

I am not on Mugbook and WTAF would I want any man Jack to know what my status was, marital or otherwise

AllPastYears · 16/08/2012 21:15

I've never bothered. Anyone who knows me knows I'm married! (and hopefully going to remain so for many years to come Smile)

Shakey1500 · 16/08/2012 21:19

I'm "married", no idea what DH is, I refuse to accept his friend request Grin

Lora1982 · 16/08/2012 22:10
