Shoes on tables is pretty darn grim isn't it?

I don't have the guts to say aynthing in RL, but I'm now questioning the fact that it's discusting and rediculous.

I'm sure some members of this planet have undergone some sort of logic bypass operation.

I saw the multiple threads and just knew this would be you Grin

Gumby · 14/08/2012 16:21

Oh yes there's a wanker at work who puts his feet up on the coffee table in the staff room.... Where all the biscuits & people's lunch go

Twat

NovackNGood · 14/08/2012 16:21

Use plates!!

Kladdkaka · 14/08/2012 16:22

Depends. We currently have shoes on the table because we're minding a shoe eating dog and it's the only bloody place she can't reach.

MAYBELATERNOWIMBUSY · 16/08/2012 00:33

you mean shoes wiv feet in em? or just shoes ? if latter, isn"t that unlucky or something?and when i asked "wiv feet in them" i mean attatched to a complete living body (human,or pretty close!)well , if just shoes ? i think the bad luck scene involves newness off said shoes ?prob. best wait till a PAGEN posts re same ,if fully formed human is occupying said footwear, that could go anywhere !brad pit ? the elephant man ? slip on ?laces ?socks?whew ! me mind boggles ! always found , when push comes to shove .a darn good swipe at said offending shoes accompanied with a stern "feet off the table" bark sorted it out !thou " harks back 2 time when everyone knew the"postie"s" 1st name , fresh food was fresh, children stood up when headmaster entered classroom...............

AgentZigzag · 16/08/2012 00:40

That's the best answer to a 'shoes indoors' thread I've ever read MAYBE Grin

If you can put shoes down anywhere, why would you choose a table? Shoes. Go. On. The. Floor.

Goes alongside decisions to feed the cat on the worktop, giving them licence to walk everywhere you prepare food cat bum germs.

Yourefired · 16/08/2012 00:45

My gran always said "never put new shoes on the table", then pulled a stressed face. We never did, and I have never done so. Buggered if I knows why. Grew up in north would love to know origin of this nonsense.

EmpressOfTheSevenFlames · 16/08/2012 01:11

There was a woman on the bus yesterday who had her sweaty bare feet on the seat

NCForNow · 16/08/2012 01:24

My DH and his Dad and Mum CONSTANTLY wear shoes and boots in the house and it drives me MAD>

I HATE it. I tell them...take your shoes off! And they do...but they forget next time.

They're all Aussie. Maybe they're cold. Tough tits. Shoes belong outdoors and indoors it's socks or slippers.

Why would I want my DC playing where they've walked in their outdoor shoes? Across traces of dog poo and wee and spit and all kinds!

As for shoes on tables!!!!!

bronze · 16/08/2012 01:26

Surely the only shoes it's ok to put on the table are new ones because they're still clean!

NCForNow · 16/08/2012 01:40

No. That's bad luck!

Yourefired · 16/08/2012 01:52

Sorry unclear in last post. When new shoes bought, in box etc, they could not go on a table but had to be put/kept on the floor before been worn.

ripsishere · 16/08/2012 06:50

My mum goes potty if shoes are put on the table. Apparently it stems from the days of laying dead people out at home HTH. In Dolly land 'feet on the table corpse on the table'
I am not superstitious like her, but feet on the table where you are eating is horrible.

BulldogDrummond · 16/08/2012 06:53

It's nothing more than bad manners to put your feet on the table wearing shoes or not.

The only time I put shoes on the a table is on newspaper when I'm cleaning them.

MyLastDuchess · 16/08/2012 06:54

Yourefired: I always thought that it was considered bad luck because it represents hanging.

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 16/08/2012 07:02

I'm not superstitious. This is from The Answer Bank:

It is considered unlucky to put new shoes on the table because doing so is inviting imminent death. The practice comes from the tradition of dressing a corpse in new clothes and shoes and laying them out so that everyone can give their respects.

ripsishere · 16/08/2012 08:28

So Dolly is correct for once!

bronze · 16/08/2012 08:30

Ncfornow
Bad luck? I would say you were in the positive luck leagues if you had new shoe

Can you tell I'm not superstitious

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 16/08/2012 08:32

Looks like it, Ripisphere!

danteV · 16/08/2012 08:34

The reason it is considered bad luck, is from the time of the plague. It was unlucky to come in from the street (was very good sewage removal) and put your shoes on the table. I would call walking in human shit then putting your shoes on the table, stupid not unlucky.
The only time shoes ever go on out table is when dd is cleaning her shoes, the table is covered with newspaper and then thrown out.
