A friend of mine has just found out her brother is expecting a son., and that they plan to give him the same name as her ds 3, who will be not quite a year old when the baby is due. Now I'll admit that m hiving your child the same name as your nephew seems a little odd, and not something I'd do , but my friend ha announced that the name and the fact that her brother doesn't send birthday cards, means she is disowning him and his baby.

I know it's not really any of my business (but let's face it, neither is what most of MN threads are about) but disowning a family member over a baby name, and lack of cards seems a little extreme?

Massively over the top. I share a name with my cousin (born two months before me) and my cousin's wife. We always knew which one was which and didn't cause any problems.
