Fake friend or not.....

salvatoresandwich · 10/08/2012 17:25

Ok so this post is not about a fake friend but it is about a friend who bought me fake makeup for my birthday. Am I being unreasonable to be annoyed?

She might not have known it was fake?

PenisVanLesbian · 10/08/2012 17:27

Fake makeup? What was it then..marmite mascara? Strawberry lipstick?

SlightlySuperiorPeasant · 10/08/2012 17:28

Fake as in it left you with chemical burns or fake as in it was branded Mars not Nars? If the first, YANBU. If the second, YAN a bit U.

VolAuVent · 10/08/2012 17:28

YABU

How do you have fake makeup? Confused

Like plastic? Out of a girls world?

Not that I would ever buy anyone makeup ever...what a weird present

SlightlySuperiorPeasant · 10/08/2012 17:29

Whoops, sorry!

salvatoresandwich · 10/08/2012 17:29

It was MAC. I can't use it can I?

OP posts:
SlightlySuperiorPeasant · 10/08/2012 17:30

MAC? Isn't that good? Confused

salvatoresandwich · 10/08/2012 17:31

MAC is very good. Fake MAC, not really.

OP posts:
HauntedLittleLunatic · 10/08/2012 17:31

Or do you mean fraudulently fake...ie something that claims to be MAC but is actually cheap stuff.

salvatoresandwich · 10/08/2012 17:32

Yes haunted that's right.

OP posts:
squeakytoy · 10/08/2012 17:32

How do you know it is fake? How do you know she knew it was fake?

salvatoresandwich · 10/08/2012 17:34

It's fake because the packaging, presentation, quality is all off. I don't know if she knows its fake or not.

I was once given a Mont Blanc pen which ran dry. I went to a jeweller to buy a refill and was told the pen was fake. I felt so stupid.

Nothing to add to the thread, I just wanted to tell my story!

Latara · 10/08/2012 17:40

Throw it away....

salvatoresandwich · 10/08/2012 17:42

Latara that's what I thought thanks for your advice.

Ebay is full of fake make up.

OurPlanetNeptune · 10/08/2012 17:46

Don't use it. Aunty used a fake pot of (well known) moisturiser, after using it daily for a month she noticed her skin was developing hyperpigmentation, got bad very quickly. I suspect it contained hydroquinone which banned in the UK but which found it's way into this pot.

VolAuVent · 10/08/2012 18:21

YABU to be annoyed before you know whether she knew it was a fake, or if so, if she even realises it would make any difference. I can see why you wouldn't want something useless but it would be nice to give your friend the benefit of the doubt. Depends what you're annoyed about really - are you annoyed with your friend or at the people who sell fake makeup? My guess is that she has no idea it's fake and thought she was buying you something really nice.

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 10/08/2012 18:30

Who or what are you annoyed about?

If you are annoyed it's not real - well OK

But if you are annoyed with her then that's a bit princessy - you don't know if she knows it's fake, plus even if she did it's still a present. Presents are nice.

salvatoresandwich · 10/08/2012 18:48

I'm annoyed that I can't use it and I'm annoyed that my friend has wasted her money. That's about it really. It is nice to get presents I agree and I would have loved to be able to use it x

OP posts:
helloclitty · 10/08/2012 18:55

YANBU
The price would likely have indicated it was fake.
How exactly do you know it's fake?

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 10/08/2012 18:59

Oh Ok. yanbu
