To think Asda are thieving bastards?

On Sunday I cancelled my Monday Asda order since we didn't need a enough to justify having it delivered.

Monday night there's a knock on the door. I tell the guy, 'I cancelled this yesterday'. He goes and looks on his van and says, 'there must have been some error, your order isn't actually on the van, but the paperwork is here'.

'I'm not going to get charged for this, right?'

'Oh no, we can't charge unless you sign for it, but you might want to contact the call centre and let them know what's happened'.

Fine.

So I contact the stupid call centre straight away. 'No, we can't charge you for it unless you've signed for the delivery'.

Then today, I check my online banking, and lo and behold, they've fucking charged me. Nearly £50 for an order I cancelled in good time, and was assured there was no way I'd be changed. Fuckers.

Called in tonight, and they want 3-5 days to process a refund!!!! Have demanded to know exactly HOW this fuckup has occurred. Supposedly I will get a call tomorrow.

I wish I could afford to shop somewhere else, this takes the piss.

If you cancelled on a Sunday, the payment was probably already being processed and they couldn't stop it.

A mistake - yes

Thieving bastards - no

Aldi and Lidl are your friends.

McHappyPants2012 · 09/08/2012 22:30

It's normal to have to wait for a refund.

pumpkinsweetie · 09/08/2012 22:30

It makes me laugh that they can take the money within minutes, yet it takes 3-5 days to refund youConfused

I would demand an apology, a gift voucher/money off coupon for your inconvience as it was their mistake.

usualsuspect · 09/08/2012 22:30

You will get your money back, it was probably already being processed.

So no I don't think they are thieving bastards.

neverquitesure · 09/08/2012 22:30

Sounds like a genuine mistake to me. So long as they were polite and apologetic on the phone I'd be satisfied.

The van/paperwork thing is weird though!

WorraLiberty · 09/08/2012 22:33

The lack of shopping in the van makes me think Asda cancelled the order as requested...but the paperwork makes me think it was too late to cancel it with the bank.

GhostShip · 09/08/2012 22:33

Pumpkin - at my work when they give refunds they send the money immediately. It takes up to 3 days to hit the accounts though so is this not the 3 days they're on about? And even though they take money straight away it doesn't go straight to the company.

bunnywhack · 10/08/2012 00:57

Actually Asda are thieving bastards on three separate occasions they have charged me twice for our order taking days to pay it back. Not fun when it wiped out all our money for the week

StateofConfusion · 10/08/2012 01:04

I stopped shopping with asda online for the exact reason bunnys posted. Charging me twice and not delivering the food and claiming I never ordered was the final straw.
My mum continues to use them despite it happening to her once a month. But she has little choice with no car/limited funds and me stuck in the next town. I swear as soon as I move I'm taking her shopping and deactivating her asda account!
