To take my 2 DSs swimming tomorrow ...

By myself when they are both non-swimmers?

DS 1 is 4 and DS 2 is 20mo. They are both very water confident and love swimming.

I feel bad that they haven't been swimming for so long due to DH s new working hours, and DS1 asks me practically every day if we can go.

They are both good kids and I reckon I could
Cope if I set ground rules and have appropriate bouyancy aids but im not sure if it would be 100% safe.

AIBU to risk it and take them anyway?

What are the rules in your pool?

WorraLiberty · 08/08/2012 23:45

You'll need to check the pool's policy first

My local pool only allows one non swimmer per adult...whereas my friend's local pool allows 2 non swimmers per adult.

Some have an under 8's policy that doesn't even consider swimmers/non swimmers...it's just 1 or 2 per adult.

kissmyshineymetalass · 08/08/2012 23:47

Will you be able to because every pool I've been to has said one child per adult unless the child is eight or older

fatmummy35 · 08/08/2012 23:48

Do your pool allow you to take both? My local pool insist on 1 adult per child if the children are under 6.

Can ds1 touch the bottom? In which case yes definitely go! I take my boys, 4.7 and 9mo, all the time, find it easy. Good luck!

Gill79 · 08/08/2012 23:52

Mind you 20mo might be more of a handful!

WorraLiberty · 08/08/2012 23:52

Gill it really does depend on the pool rules and not whether they can/can't touch the bottom.

fromheretomaternity · 08/08/2012 23:54

I've done it a couple of times and tbh didn't really enjoy it - the younger one wanted to get out earlier than the older one, and getting showered and changed afterwards was logistically difficult.

But I don't think the op was asking us what her pool rules were, rather for our opinion based on experience... that's my experience.

Gill79 · 08/08/2012 23:58

Fair enough our pool has massive changing rooms, you can wheel buggy poolside, that makes a difference
Wouldn't fancy changing two in a cubicle!

WorraLiberty · 08/08/2012 23:58

Oh I see, yes you could be right Gill sorry.

akaemmafrost · 09/08/2012 00:01

I always did it, two or three times a week, both in arm bands. Bloody hard work though. Much easier now ds is a confident swimmer.

PatriciaHolm · 09/08/2012 00:04

I used to take ours (18 months gap), no problem, with arm bands. (never had a problem re ratios)
