Well I consider myself a scot before anything else, but tonight he raced under the banner of GB,and to see the emotion in his face when they played God Save the Queen was clear to all how much that meant to him, and I was so pleased for him and pleased to see the Union jack flying high

if he goes to Glasgow 2014, then there'll be the chance to hear Flo'er o Scotland

YEs, YABU he represents Great Britain at the Olympics. If he goes to the Commonwealth Games he can have the Scottish Anthem.

Perhaps we could split the nations into England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland then we could play the individual anthems. Currently all the athletes are competing as Great Britain so we play the British national anthem (dire as it is)

YANBU. The "British" national anthem is an anachronistic embarrassment and shouldn't be played for anyone. But especially its not appropriate for Scottish winners.

I think there should be a new anthem for the UK if Scotland stays part of the union after the vote, after all neither the English nor Scottish anthems are particularly complimentary about the other country and it would be nice to have a fresh anthem that doesn't piss anyone off.

I'm Scottish and while I love to see scottish sports men/women do well, he was representing GB, so it's the british anthem that's get played.

Thankfully it's only one verse otherwise they might just find out how rebellious us scots can be

YABU, there is no Scottish anthem, Flower of Scotland is fairly recent and unofficial and he was competing for team GB.

I like Flower of Scotland too but I meant we could have a new anthem for when Britain is competing as a team, so for the likes of the world cup when England and Scotland (and Wales and Ireland) compete separately they can use their own anthem, if its Britain then it could be a British anthem separate from the exisiting ones and more unified than divisive like God Save the Queen is. Just please don't let Macca or Elton John write it .

To confuse matters even further what anthem should be played when non GB competitors in the team win a medal.
