I thought the Scottish one was the one about walking 500 miles...

BlueBirdsNest · 07/08/2012 20:01

Yabu and nuts.

JollyHockeyStick · 07/08/2012 20:05

I like Caledonia.

Or Scots Wha Hae, but I suspect that's fairly niche.

500 miles is a good Scottish song but I'm not sure it's anthem material, sadly.

TandB · 07/08/2012 20:05

It's on u-tube! It's still funny!

SoleSource · 07/08/2012 20:05

There were some waving the Scottish flag.

TheCunningStunt · 07/08/2012 20:06

It was indeed BillyGrin

Bunbaker · 07/08/2012 20:06

"YANBU. It should be Scottish national anthem for Scottish winners."

That's fine, as long as they represent Scotland and not Great Britain.

"Not that awful dirge God Save the Queen."

It is rather dirge like isn't it.

TandB · 07/08/2012 20:06

If someone is that offended by being classified as British at the Olympics, be they English, Welsh, Scottish, Irish or Manx, they have the option not to compete for the British team.

There is always the independent athlete option.

FrillyMilly · 07/08/2012 20:08

Why can't we just have a new British national anthem? And a new English one whilst we are at it? Can someone start a petition or something. The song was written in the 17th century so is a bit out of date.

If someone really does not see themselves as British only Scottish what are they doing representing Britain?

Bunbaker · 07/08/2012 20:08

"If someone really does not see themselves as British only Scottish what are they doing representing Britain?"

Exactly

TidyDancer · 07/08/2012 20:09

He is competing for Team GB. He is British. Sorry to disappoint your agenda though, OP.

Latara · 07/08/2012 20:09

YABU - he's in Team GB - the British team; representing all of Britain.

So the British national anthem is appropriate.

BlueBirdsNest · 07/08/2012 20:11

I'd 500 miles to become the anthemn.......Edinburgh boys just like Chris Hoy

SeashellsAllezModInYellowAllez · 07/08/2012 20:17

Yabu - GB and GSTQ

I have learnt though that the tune for GsTQ is also the tune for Liechtenstein and is the tune for the Norwegian Royal anthem (as opposed to their national anthem) ... Poor countries as it really is dire. I love the Marseillaise :)

Lol @ 500miles Grin

Latara · 07/08/2012 20:18

I bet the Queen has a little grin to herself every time the national anthem gets played - ''haha, they all have to play my song & celebrate me yet again!!''

Plus all her family & the PM (& everyone else) has to bow / curtsey to her... i bet she really enjoys that when one of them has pissed her off!! Hehe :)

It will be interesting to see what happens if the Scots decide to go for independence

geegee888 · 07/08/2012 20:22

I doubt the athlete himself would thank you.

geegee888 · 07/08/2012 20:23

Chris Hoy's views on being fed up with the SNP using sport to make political points and his pleasure at being part of Team GB are well documented.

bureni · 07/08/2012 20:23

Maybe we should all sing "Vindaloo" that seems to be more popular than GSTQ Grin

Rosa · 07/08/2012 20:24

YA being silly..

Its a proud moment for Scotand -as well.

TidyDancer · 07/08/2012 20:24

Exactly Puddlyjumper. But the OP is pushing his/her agenda and seems unwilling to accept any of those points. Grin

TidyDancer · 07/08/2012 20:24

Puddly?! I meant Puddle.... Blush
