Ah what about the old Radio 4 Anthem that had a bit for everyone. It was a shame they got rid of it as I used to love waking to that.

"creishy"= oily/greasy in Broad Scots and "fox" in this context means a cunning person.

Grin
Salmotrutta · 07/08/2012 22:54

That was for pinkydoodah BTW!

NovackNGood · 07/08/2012 22:57

Flower of Acotland is the biggest whinging s---e song I've ever heard and it made Murrayfield dire once they stopped playing Scotland the Brave for internationals, which is around the time Scotland stopped winning there too. Now they've added that german tune Highland Cathedral and the team does even worse.

If they played the Bay City Rollers it couldn't be more twee.

YABVU:

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2620262/Chris-Hoy-pours-scorn-on-Alex-Salmonds-plan-for-separate-Scottish-Olympic-team.html

Triple gold medallist Chris Hoy described the First Minister's plan for a separate Scottish Olympic team as "ridiculous".

The Edinburgh cyclist said he would not have "three gold medals hanging round my neck" if he had not been part of Team GB and Scotland does not have the training facilities needed to rival Britain's success.

The extraordinary attack came as Team GB received a hero's welcome on its return home, and reflects athletes' annoyance at the sniping that has emerged from Scottish ministers.

"I'm a Scottish athlete in a British team, and I'm proud to be a British athlete."

?Scotland is part of Britain, they are not mutually exclusive, I?m a proud Scot and I?m a very proud Brit as well.?

He took on the law and lost. lol

Kladdkaka · 07/08/2012 23:12

I vow to thee my country...now there is an anthem. At least it actually means something and is about the country and not one person.

It's a beautiful song but it was written as a song of remembrance to the fallen soldiers in WWI. It is primarily a Remembrance Day song used throughout the Commonwealth.

BlueBirdsNest · 07/08/2012 23:26

triple gold medalist............six medals then

BlueBirdsNest you are ignoring points and seem to be popping along with your own agenda rather than at any point explaining your original point - why do you think a Scottish national anthem should be played instead of GSTQ when he is representing GB not Scotland?? (and Im Scottish so no anti-Scots agenda here)

CommunistMoon · 07/08/2012 23:28

YABU. Can't see why Jerusalem would be a problem at a wedding either Confused

BlueBirdsNest · 07/08/2012 23:28

my arse scotland doesn't have the facilities

OP posts:
seb1 · 07/08/2012 23:32

Maybe we could play this at Glasgow 2014 that would get Parkhead jumping

BlueBirdsNest · 07/08/2012 23:34

well sheariver it's more emotive than anything else if that makes sense.

I suppose in a way I'd like to see Scotland compete as a nation in it's own right , same way I think wales and ireland should be able to

God the Queen is disrespectful to Scots and for that reason I think they should have played the Scottish anthem .

Obviously that is my opinion and I might be wrong

OP posts:
CommunistMoon · 07/08/2012 23:37

GSTQ is disrespectful to anyone with an ounce of self-respect. I must have missed the meeting that made FOS an anthem, though.

shesariver · 07/08/2012 23:40

Fair enough but Scotland wasnt competing as a nation in its own right, its team GB. So its GSTQ. Thats a simple fact and as much as I think its disrespectful to Scots its the only national anthem Britain has. So Im struggling to get your original AIBU.

seb1 · 07/08/2012 23:41

Hopefully in two years we will see him in action here Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome

NovackNGood · 07/08/2012 23:43

GSTQ is not disrespectful to scots. It is only if they are rebellious scots it is about them.

NovackNGood · 07/08/2012 23:44

Ireland do compete in their own right!!

BlueBirdsNest · 07/08/2012 23:46

It is not the only song Britain has ......most of the English don't like it either

OP posts:
BlueBirdsNest · 07/08/2012 23:50

God save our gracious queen

something something send her victorious

Long to reign over us...............reign over who exactly? She in't even English

OP posts:
FateLovesTheFearless · 07/08/2012 23:56

Blush I may owe my dp an apology, we were -arguing- debating about this the other night. I thought GSTQ was England's anthem and said GB should have its own anthem. Confused in my defence I had drank a fair bit of wine! -clearly I am a bit dense-

BoneyBackJefferson · 07/08/2012 23:56

*She in't even English"

Nope she is British :)

By your notion of English the majority of the English nation isn't English either.
