The only person I've seen belting out GSTQ is Andy Murray so far.

JumpingThroughHoops · 07/08/2012 19:02

England has an anthem - we just don't ever seem to use it.

Ours is Land of Hope and Glory

ForFoxsGlacierMints · 07/08/2012 19:03

I'm not sure Flower of Scotland is the Scottish national anthem, I'm fairly sure we don't have one.

Zara1984 · 07/08/2012 19:04

YABU, he was representing GB, end of. Different story at eg Commonwealth Games.

Didn't look like Chris minded, he was shedding plenty of joyful tears!

National anthems are much ado about nothing anyway, find something better to worry yourself with.

TidyDancer · 07/08/2012 19:05

YABVU. He is not competing as a Scottish man, he is competing as a British man.

I just knew this thread would spring up.

BlueBirdsNest · 07/08/2012 19:05

eh! foreverondiet I think you'll find there is

I agree with Bureni >> what would be played for people from Northern Ireland?

That has always confused me actually. Why is it Team GB and not Team UK?

cardibach · 07/08/2012 19:06

I'm pretty sure England doesn't have an official anthem separate from GSTQ, Jumping. It should, though, but I think Land of Hope and GLory would be better for Britain when we get rid of the rubbish we have now .ENgland should have Jerusalem.
I am a proud Welsh woman, but YABU, OP. IT's Team GB, so GSTQ it is.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 07/08/2012 19:06

YABU. They play it at the Commonwealths. If Sir Chris can be proud of being British, then so should his supporters. They're his sodding medals!

BlueBirdsNest · 07/08/2012 19:06

I think Andy Murray did well

YABU and I hate GSTQ.

cardibach · 07/08/2012 19:08

It's officially Breat Britain and Northen Ireland, but has got abbreviated
because nobody in the media think anything outside England, or possibly London, exists
I read that on MN, I did. Grin

cardibach · 07/08/2012 19:08

*Great not Breat

bureni · 07/08/2012 19:08

Perhaps the national anthem and the winning countries anthem could both be played though that would leave England and N.I in difficulty unless they use their unoffical anthems.

BlueBirdsNest · 07/08/2012 19:11

England must have an anthem though?

Is not Jersulam

God Save the Queen is such a dirge, bloody forelock tugging subservient nonsense. La marseillaise on the other hand is absolutely bloody brilliant.

I like Flowrr of Scotland too - DP wells up whenever he hears it, that and 'Danny Boy' Hmm

MaryPoppinsBagsGold · 07/08/2012 19:11

YABU

KatieisScarlettinSpandex · 07/08/2012 19:12

YABU and I'm an SNP voting Scot too.

And I think the National Anthem sucks, and I'm a Republican.

Sign up for Team GB and it's God Save Liz, I'm afraid.

bureni · 07/08/2012 19:12

Zara, the unoffical anthem for N.I is called "Londonderry Air" but its just a melody though we could hum along lol.

PenisVanLesbian · 07/08/2012 19:14

Not to everyone its not, bureni.

RindersGoesForGold · 07/08/2012 19:16

YABU. If Scotland gains independence in the referendum, then I am sure that come Rio, all Scottish gold medal winners will be proud to sing Flower of Scotland Smile

bureni · 07/08/2012 19:16

Its the only one we got bar GSTQ which is the offical anthem for N.I. which leads to confusion when N.I play against England in football etc, 2 countries with the same anthem.? bit daft .

YABu, although some of the commentators need to remember it's the British team. I've heard 'ENglish team' slip out a couple of times.
