to think offensive jokes...

lauratheexplorer · 07/08/2012 16:44

are sick and not to my taste but the outrage of people on Facebook and such sites is ridiculous?

There is bad taste and sick humour everywhere. If you don't like it, don't look at it. People are crying out to get the page removed and threats to the creators or anyone who thinks it's funny are being thrown. I think censorship is an even bigger issue than people being offended by sick jokes but according to my friends IABU and therefore am sick myself for not calling out for it to be banned.

AIBU?

I had an argument about this earlier.

My only problem in this is Facebook. It needs to figure out what is acceptable and what isn't.

If I made a page right now with hateful religious jokes, it'd be deleted within hours. So why not this one? Oh because being mocked for grieving for ones dead child isn't as important as making jokes about following a religion. Apparently.

Salmotrutta · 07/08/2012 16:50

I don't do facebook but if I did I'm sure I'd be pretty outraged by sick jokes and ask for deletion/banning.

Censorship has it's place for certain things.

Forgot to say YABU.

BigHairyFlowers · 07/08/2012 16:51

Yes. And fuck off.

GhostShip · 07/08/2012 16:52

Euphemia it's been hard to miss on Facebook lately. It's gone viral. I've only seem people complaining about it, not people joining inn

Salmotrutta · 07/08/2012 16:52

Do you think facebook bullying is OK too then OP?

GhostShip · 07/08/2012 16:55

In all fairness I can sort of see her point, it's like the whole Frankie Boyle thing. Where is the line drawn?

The reason we don't have ruled about these things id because there shouldn't need to be any. But you get fuckwits who do things BECAUSE THEY CAN.

I also hate the use of 'free speech innit'

missymoomoomee · 07/08/2012 16:56

I assume that everyone in your life can say what they want to you and your children and family then laura as you don't like censorship.

lagartija · 07/08/2012 16:57

what dead baby jokes?

Moominsarescary · 07/08/2012 16:57

I've got a few friends who have complained about it only to have members of this group turn on them. I haven't bothered as I think they enjoy the attention but yes it should be banned.

I don't know how it's been aloud to go on for so long with some of the disgusting jokes and comments

It's not just about being offended by sick jokes, it's incredably hurtful for those who have lost babies.

SoleSource · 07/08/2012 17:01

YABU and stupid.

surroundedbyblondes · 07/08/2012 17:02

There are some subjects that are just not ever right to have jokes made about them.

PissyDust · 07/08/2012 17:08

I have seen the page but only read loads of argumentative posts about how disgusting it is.

I tend to read, ignore and move on.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 07/08/2012 17:09

Nice title and OP, thanks for that Hmm

MrsVamosGOTEAMGB · 07/08/2012 17:10

And yet, on another thread, potential employers have a right to be concerned that a person may have psychopathic tendencies because they are NOT on FB ? Hmm

lauratheexplorer · 07/08/2012 17:11

I've said I don't like it. I don't agree with it but I don't like or agree with a lot of things and I don't ask Facebook to take down the pages that offend me. Everyone has a right to do and say as they please to me. If I don't like it I ask them nicely to not say it again as it upset me and if they continue to do it then I just don't speak to them. I don't tell people what they can and can't say. If Facebook aren't removing the page that's up to them but threats to the people who posted the jokes are not on imo.

I'm offended by it personally like so many others out there too.

I didn't know what else to title it. Sorry to anyone who may have been upset by the title. Can MNHQ change it?

OP posts:
JarethTheGoblinKing · 07/08/2012 17:17

Yes, if you report your OP you can ask MNHQ to change the title.

lauratheexplorer · 07/08/2012 17:17

I've defriended the people involved but then got a phone call from one of my closest friends saying "You're so sucking sick. You should know how offensive this is but you won't sign this petition! I wish the creator would have a dead baby too but you say wishing that on someone who created this joke is wrong. Fuck you you sick bitch".

That happened. From a married woman in her late twenties who has always been brilliant to me. That what prompted my post :(

OP posts:
lauratheexplorer · 07/08/2012 17:19

Thanks, I've reported it.

Bloody hell.

I'm very grateful I only have sane, normal people on my FB!

MrsVamosGOTEAMGB · 07/08/2012 17:20

No longer a close friend ?

How anyone could wish someone would lose a baby/child is beyond me. Shock It's not a barrell of fun, to be honest. I know.

I think with things like this you just have to shake your head with disbelief and ignore, ignore, ignore. Pretend you never saw.

NotGeoffVader · 07/08/2012 17:23

The jokes I could just about stomach, but it was the pictures on FB that were offensive. There are several pages on FB with distasteful/offensive/upsetting images but at the moment, they are all there.
I am not going to give them the publicity they do not deserve by putting them here.
I did report the fb page but for the images, not for the jokes. I have not looked to see if it is still there. Am working on the ignore technique.

Thankfully nobody I know would be posting on such pages. If they did, they would be forever defriended.
