words are getting impossible to read. I must have tried at least twenty words before I could find one I could read.

I am not sure what it does but AIBU to think that they are impossible to decipher half the time.

I don't know how people with a visual impairment cope. I've tried listening to the words too but that often doesn't help either.

MackerelOfFact · 06/08/2012 10:22

They are so annoying. You will invariably get most of them right and then there will be something that could be either y, g, 9, p or something.

They are to verify that you are a human and not an automated computer - for the benefit of the website you are visiting, rather than your own benefit, usually.

YANBU

starlingsintheslipstream · 06/08/2012 10:53

YANBU. I don't get it at all. It would help if they were actual words Confused.

HugeFurryWishingStool · 06/08/2012 10:56

Recaptcha is brilliant though! It helps translate old texts into digital books - every time you solve a recaptcha you're contributing! www.google.com/recaptcha/learnmore

helloclitty · 06/08/2012 10:56

And why the crooked letters?

I am not sure I actually understand that but thanks for the link.

YANBU. I really hate them. I have to keep clicking to get new ones until I can read it. And I have good eyesight.

I also cannot get into my email because they want an alternate email, security questions and my phone number. Im sorry but no. Il do without my email before I give them my bloody life story.

Technology is taking over.

HugeFurryWishingStool · 06/08/2012 11:06

Sorry HelloClitty, I'll stop waffling and post something more enlightening: walrusmagazine.com/articles/2009.03-technology-human-resources-recaptcha-alex-hutchinson/

Oh, it drives me up the pigging WALL! Most of the words are impossible to read, I agree.

HecateHarshPants · 06/08/2012 11:38

Wow, Huge - I just read your links. That's amazing. I didn't know that. I feel a little less pissed off about doing it now Grin

TheDoctrineOfEnnis · 06/08/2012 11:54

I agree, Op. they do seem to be getting harder but maybe the reading technology is getting better?

Off to read link which will probably answer my point Grin

TheDoctrineOfEnnis · 06/08/2012 11:58

Ah, have read it.

I don't mind the real words, it is the strings that are harder as sometimes it is difficult to tell between similar characters if there is no context of a word.

AmberLeaf · 06/08/2012 11:59

They are very stupid.
