Not AIBU but I need advice/ help

My back door won't open.
It unlocks just fine, and I can see the locking bolt move out of the way when I unlock it, but when I depress the handle to try to open the door, the bolt that should move to allow the door to open doesn't move.

It's one of those doors where you lift the handle before you lock it, and when I lift the handle I can hear the bolts that go across the top and the bottom moving across fine.

It's literally just the middle catch/ bolt that should move when you out the handle down that seems to be somehow stuck.

Anybody got any ideas before I resort to the expensive option of a locksmith?

Thanks, and sorry because I know it's not AIBU but this is high traffic and I need advice before I spend a fortune calling someone out!

Have you tried dousing it with WD40?

We had a lock which kept jamming, a good spray got it all moving again.

unscrew the door handle and get to the mechanism that way.

It may be terminal but a double glazing person should be able to get and fit a new handle and mechanism for you.

Find a smaller independent firm IYSWIM

Have you got any WD40 you could squirt in there to try and loosen it up? I guess cooking oil would be a substitute. Wipe any excess away though.

Check if your door is under guarantee from whatever glazing company installed it before you call a locksmith. Some have 5 or 10 year guarantees, and should come and sort it out for free.

My neighbour rescued me in the eds! The screw that holds the mechanism in place was loose, so he worked it open with 2 screwdrivers, and then tightened it for me!

Saved! :-) thanks for the help :-)
