To all the morons who were sharing my commute home with me this afternoon in the monsoon-like pouring rain:

Turn your bloody lights on!!!!

You may be able to see perfectly well, but I can't necessarily see you.

Thank you - also on behalf of all the lovely sensible people who did have their lights on.

Road rage?

epeesarepointythings · 02/08/2012 19:10

No, not liking being in danger... What justification could there possibly be for driving without lights in that kind of weather?

OP posts:
Jillyhere · 02/08/2012 19:12

Wow. I wish I was as good a driver as you.

epeesarepointythings · 02/08/2012 19:15

Not saying I am a good driver, just that I put my lights on when it rains. So that people can, you know, see me, and not drive into the back of me?

Why is it U to resent people who fail to observe basic road courtesy and safety?

I think these dashboards that light up the minute you turn your key don't help. Once upon a time your dash didn't light if your lights were off but now you can glance at your panel, see it alight ad not realise your lights are off.

But I do hear your plea, it drives me mad too. That and sidelights, what are sidelights all about anyway? They are worse than useless if your vehicle is moving.

headfairy · 02/08/2012 19:19

Or... get yourself a Volvo. Can't turn the lights off at all :o

epeesarepointythings · 02/08/2012 19:24

Oh thank goodness for some sane voices on this thread! Thanks

I cannot understand why anyone is getting snarky with epees about this - it is just common sense to put your headlights on in poor visibility conditions - why bitch at her for saying this?

epeesarepointythings · 02/08/2012 19:33

Thanks Thanks Thanks

Oh gosh, You are So NBU. It drives me Maaaaaaaad people driving without lights in the rain.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad.

Don't they realise they can't be seen? If you've got a banana yellow car, then maybe Hmm... But what's everyone else's reason??

JeezyPeeps · 02/08/2012 19:40

YANBU. You even get people here driving in fog with no lights on. So dangerous.

sneezecakesmum · 02/08/2012 19:43

Rain?. Mostly sunny here Grin

No YRNBU they are eejits

Foslady · 02/08/2012 19:46

Uppermid · 02/08/2012 19:57

Ya totally nbu. Some people are just knobs!

CaptainHetty · 02/08/2012 20:00

YANBU. Some people seem to have no common sense.

HugeMedalTally · 02/08/2012 20:03

Steve Wright (in the afternoooooon) would say "muppetry!"

epeesarepointythings · 02/08/2012 20:08

Sneezecakes we had mostly sunshine here too (Cambridgeshire/Suffolk) except for the period from about 10 minutes before I was due to leave for home until about 10 minutes after I got home. During this period it was absolutely hosing it down, spray everywhere, sky pretty much dark.

It's lovely again now.

tryingtonotfeckup · 02/08/2012 20:13

Completely agree, its worse if they are in a silver car, really I can't see you in the rain and if there is loads of spray or fog. Doh

YANBU.

BlackOutTheSun · 02/08/2012 20:16

YANBU

That winds me up

Paiviaso · 02/08/2012 20:21

My lights turn on automatically in low light levels, so I'm not used to having to manually turn them on. I try to remember when its raining, but I don't always.

Though today there was some cloud dark enough that they came on themselves.

epeesarepointythings · 02/08/2012 20:30

Paiviaso believe me, your lights would have come on in this stuff! I'm not dogmatic about this, if it's light rain in otherwise bright light I'm not that bothered, but we're talking almost instant night here. You sound pretty sensible.

BartletForTeamGB · 02/08/2012 21:45

I am definitely with you on this, particularly when the cars are silver so blend into the gloom perfectly. (We have a silver car too, which is why we pretty much have our lights on constantly at the moment.)

FreeBirdsFlying · 02/08/2012 21:52

Idiots around here don't seem to realise that fog lights are to be used in fog .

YANBU

RuthlessBaggage · 02/08/2012 21:54

DH and I have observed that cars the same colour as tarmac or sky are least likely to be appropriately lit.

YANBU.

WelshMaenad · 02/08/2012 21:54

YANBU. This is one of my pet driving hates (I have quite a few...)
