Am usually a lurker but I am at the end of my teather!!!! AIBU to HATE sky?! I am coming to the end of my 3rd day of annual leave waiting for a phone and broadband engineer who never turned up. I have no more holiday to take and Sky won't let me cancel my subscription. In the 2 months I have been with them I have had a total of 2 week's service. I have taken 3 days holiday out of my 20 for the year and have spent hours and hours on the phone to them at my expense (a very lovely sky lady told me I can phone free from my home phone- which is not working of course!!!!). My compensation... £7.50 and an apology. Well I lost it... I actually cried. They won't let me cancel so the only way around it is to move house if I want a phone line or broadband in the next 10 months (as sky have my line). They are mean mean mean!! Any advise please? I feel totally bullied!

We use sky and never had any problems, but I'd suggest going straight to the top, google the chairmanship name and email him. Or use twitter, companies tend to move faster when problems are in the public domain.

RobotHamster · 31/07/2012 18:06

I hate them but for entirely different reasons.. I'd never give money to those bastards..

lunchbox · 31/07/2012 18:11

Chairmans name is Nicholas ferguson. Couldn't find email with a quick google on phone but I'm sure it's not too hard to find

liquoriceshakes · 31/07/2012 18:17

Thank you- I will track him down!! Looking back my conversation with them was quite funny- the lady informed me they can only come out on weekdays so I told her this was my last annual leave day of the year (wobbly bottom lip) and she said they could send an engineer out on my next day off in January But of course I will have to continue paying my subscription (actual tears).

Also hate em. Had similar problems with their service. Will never go back to them. Send that director fella the link for this thread while your at it.

Sky you suck Angry

Oopla · 31/07/2012 18:20

You def shouldn't be paying for service you don't have by the way, I was reimbursed for loss of service ( even though they never fixed the problem)

liquoriceshakes · 31/07/2012 18:23

It's because I'm in a 12 month contract- I will get my act together and complain properly. I'd like to think they can't get away with treating people like this but I have a horrible feeling they can Sad

What is the problem that you are having with the equipment OP?

(we are an independent Sky installer, so I may be able to help) or at least point you in the right direction.

liquoriceshakes · 31/07/2012 19:15

I just have no dial tone- when I first joined I had a dial tone but no broadband connection and then 2 weeks ago I picked up the phone and it's dead. Ive tried 2 different phones do I've ruled out a fault with the handset and sky are saying the fault is in or near my home... If you can help that would be amazing!!! Thanks Smile

brightermornings · 31/07/2012 19:17

Can you not put something on twitter or Facebook if everyone retweets (I'm not sure how twitter works!!) and comments on Facebook it may get someone's attention who can help.

squeakytoy · 31/07/2012 19:29

How many phone sockets have you got? Have you tried the main socket, if there is more than one? That is a different socket to the others as you undo the two screws either side, pull the front off, which will only remove half of the front, and on the right hand side will be another phone socket, if the phone still doesnt work, then it is outside the home usually, where the problem is.

BT still provide the phone line, even though it is Sky who you order and pay from, so I would suggest ringing BT and asking them too.

liquoriceshakes · 31/07/2012 19:48

Thank you- I've tried all the unscrewing, plugging in to the master socket etc but to no avail- whatever is wrong they definitely need to come out. Good point about it being Bt though I will phone them- thanks! I will hound them until it is resolved!!

I used to work for Sky and I fucking hated it.

If you want to get anywhere, you'll have to call up Customer Services, and get the complaints address (it's in Livingstone) and write a letter to their Customer Relations dept.

They're obliged to call you and resolve the complaint in one phonecall.

liquoriceshakes · 31/07/2012 20:25

That is good inside info- thanks!! I will do that. Sorry you hated your job- at least you are out though Smile

SneakyNuts · 31/07/2012 20:29

No problem!
Oh and also, they probably will try and offer you something to make you stay with them, just take a firm stance.

If the person on the end of the phone is a knob, take their user id and speak to a supervisor instead :)

Fiendishlie · 31/07/2012 22:17

I love bSkyb.

Just wish I could cancel the licence fee and just pay for sky.

headfairy · 31/07/2012 22:27

I loathe Sky too...fiendish are you actually mad? Sky make nothing but buy loads of shit from America. I am if course massively biased because I work for the other side, but for less than 40p a day you get radio stations unrivalled in the world (does anyone have anything that can even touch Radio 4?), the world's most read website and some of the best original programming in the world.

funkyhat · 31/07/2012 22:32

what headfairy says :)

RichTeas · 31/07/2012 22:35

SKY is excellent. Once had a problem with them, wrote in, someone senior called back and sorted it. Great programming, easy to use, reasonably priced, what more could you want.

TwoIfBySea · 31/07/2012 22:35

You should try working for them!

headfairy · 31/07/2012 22:44

Mind you, Virgin do have fairly crap customer service too! But they've never left me without phone/tv/broadband for more than a few hours.

oldfatandtired1 · 31/07/2012 22:47

[email protected]. CEO who won't read your mail but it will be actioned. Trust me hereSmile

Fiendishlie · 31/07/2012 23:23

I love quality American drama, that I get from Sky (and FX, Channel 5, E4 etc too).
I do not enjoy listening to the radio at all, we're all different, of course). Each year I look back and see what I watched on the BBC for my licence fee. Doctor Who and Torchwood I think, last year, only.
New British drama and comedy from Sky has been excellent. Stella and Spy immediately spring to mind. The introduction of Sky Atlantic has been great.
I don't feel that I subsidise the football, as it's on premium channels that I don't pay for, and my tv viewing isn't disrupted by crap I'm not interested in Olympics

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 31/07/2012 23:27

I really like Sky. They have really great sports coverage and we have always had good service from them.

Love the Beeb too btw, and would pick auntie in an either/or Grin

liquoriceshakes · 01/08/2012 12:51
