Went in a taxi. The jouney was £9.50 and gave the nasty driver £20. He gave me 50p change. I said I gave him a twenty he rudely said I didn't. So now tenner is lost.

AIBU to be majorly pissed off??

Where was this? Was it a black cab, a registered cab?

SirEdmundFrillary · 31/07/2012 16:33

YANBU too

Lovemy3kids · 31/07/2012 16:35

No YANBU.....I would have stayed in the taxi until he gave me the correct change!!

LordOfThe5Rings · 31/07/2012 16:35

Registered and booked from my flat to the train station.

Normally you would wave the note and say "have you got change of a twenty?"

lovebunny · 31/07/2012 16:38

no car so i use taxis fairly often. recently a local firm has recruited new drivers. new drivers have brought a little scam with them. if you pay with pound coins, they pretend you've given them a 10p piece. the first time, i believed the guy, but the second time, i gave the driver a telling off and now i count out coins very, very carefully.

in a similar position, with no change, i told the driver to give me his address and i'd post the fare to him. he did, and i did.

JennerOSity · 31/07/2012 16:38

I would stage a sit in and demand he show me the last note put in his pocket/till thingy.

Assume he is long gone though, so that just leaves you seething! Poor You! I expect the shock of being blatantly ripped off left you stunned and changed how you would react. Brew

I would complain to his office though. If they take it seriously you may at least create a stink at work for him.

SirEdmundFrillary · 31/07/2012 16:39

I'd be majorly pissed off too. You could try contacting the booking office but they'll probably be no help. It might be one of those things to put down to experience, sadly.

EricNorthmansFangBanger · 31/07/2012 16:40

Ring the taxi firm and tell them what has happened. YANBU.

LordOfThe5Rings · 31/07/2012 16:40

love would have was worried he would get all nasty about it then call police and get me forcefully removed. No proof so just word against word.

Taxi drivers do not have to give you change if they dont have it.

This is why i dont use taxis.

Do they not, wild?! How come?

I've been in a taxi where he declared he had no change. I said I was happy for him to round it to the amount he did have change for, but I needed my change. And I didn't budge. He gave me my change!

BrevilleTron · 31/07/2012 18:33

If its a London black cab just do a sit in and ask why they haven't got a bale of hay in the back (for the hosses)
It's still a legal requirement and DH2b has used it in order to get change!

LordOfThe5Rings · 31/07/2012 21:19

Haha ^.

Good one.

PenisVanLesbian · 31/07/2012 22:11

Fuck that, I wouldn't have moved til I got my tenner.

FasterHigherBeardierDaddyman · 31/07/2012 22:15

A good trick is to fold one corner of the note a couple of times to make it identifiable, then you can call them out on it.

BigFatCushion · 31/07/2012 22:32

My Mum taught me to wave it around making a big song and dance of the fact I only had a TWENTY.

angryfurball · 31/07/2012 22:50

I would complain to his office, even if they don't believe you or give you your tenner back, if he does this regularly and everyone complains they'll soon cop on and he will be in trouble.

PlumpDogPillionaire · 31/07/2012 22:53

Have learnt to announce value of note whilst handing it over - as in:
"£9.50? I've no tenners, only a £20 note."

StuntGirl · 31/07/2012 22:57

Call the taxi office, failing that the local licensing authority. I found the latter very helpful when I had a problem with a knobhead taxi driver.
