to ask about holding house parties??

We are planning a party in August, I have got about 70 coming. We are having a small marquee in our garden, and having live music, DJ and also karaoke (LOL high risk of the neighbourhood cats gathering in one place), there will not be alcohol sold, we will suppy some beer and wine, but everyone is being asked to bring a bottle. We will also be supplying food. It will probably go from 7pm until midnight ish (we are old farts, so won't be an all nighter!).

Our house is detached, in a medium size village. Happily, all of our near neighbours are coming.

Do any MNetters know whether I have to apply to the council for some sort of licence as we have live entertainment with a PA? (karaoke not included, not sure how entertaining that will be....)

Looks like you don't need a licence for a private event

Thanks! Have been trying to navigate local
Council website with no success!

I've thrown loads and loads of private parties, sometimes with live music. It wouldn't even occur to me that I may need a licence if I'm not selling alcohol. (and I work closely with the ents industry, though not in it iyswim). I wouldn't worry, the police will not care, as long as there are no complaints about noise/parking. And even if there are, they probably won't care.

Sounds great!

My house parties involve a bottle of blossom hill a tube of Pringles and the iPod on shuffle.
