To not go to this memorial service?

We have been invited to attend a memorial service for DH's great uncle next week. I'm fine for DH to go if he would like to and will look after DS while he does but have said I won't be going myself because:

  • it's in central London during the Olympics. We don't live in London;
  • I'm 7 months pg and don't fancy being stuck in traffic/on public transport for hours;
  • I didn't know the great uncle and don't remember his name ever being mentioned before; and
  • the great uncle has been dead for 10 years.

DH thinks I should come. I see absolutely no reason why I should other than to show my face and there are plenty of other more convenient occasions for me to do that. AIBU?

Yanbu. If he's been gone for 10 years and you didn't know him, then you should not be expected to go along. In fact, it's a bit odd to hold it after 10 years, but quite nice for the people who knew him I suppose.

That's rather what I thought too but any excuse for a party!

Its going to be hell in central London during the Olympics. I went through there yesterday and saw at first hand what's happening to the roads, and the visitors haven't arrived yet.
You can tell your DH from me that you would be crazy to go there while 7months pg unless it was a matter of life and death..

OP look at this link

Thanks for the link - looks nightmarish.

I won't be going but I'm just hoping to convince DH that I'm not being disrespectful to the previously-unknown great-uncle or his relatives Hmm

If it's that bad now, just imagine what it's going to be like when the games actually start!
I think the organisers of the memorial are going to regret holding it at this time.
