To think these 'rules' are silly?

I took DD to our local shop today for icecream. There's a tiny place for coffee and snacks, and then the ice cream, normally we sit down but it was too busy today so we just got it to take-away. So I asked the girl for a scoop of chocolate and a scoop of vanilla in a tub. She said they don't 'do' scoops and I could only have one flavour. I've never heard this before, but said, fine.

Then I asked for sprinkles. She said they didn't 'do sprinkles either.' I've had sprinkles in here before?! So I pointed this out and she said you can only have sprinkles if you are sitting down. I think this is nuts! AIBU?

I was once told in a cafe that I couldn't order a cajun chicken salad AND a baked potato, it had to be one or the other. I involuntarily barked laughing and the waitress scurried away before returning red-faced to say I could have both after all.

YANBU. No sprinkles? What the jeff?

Deepvertigo · 22/07/2012 21:02

You can only have sprinkles if you are sitting down?

Did you ask her why?!

pictish · 22/07/2012 21:03

Stoopid stoopid stoopid. I agree.

MagicHouse · 22/07/2012 21:03

LOL! YANBU - I would have said "I don't DO icecream without 2 flavours and sprinkes" and walked to another shop!

ElliotW · 22/07/2012 21:04

See, I wouldn't mind if they didn't do them at all- but the sitting down bit made me Hmm

The poor girl (to be fair to her, she was only about 17) said that they make too much mess and they're too hard to price. But that doesn't explain why you can get them if you sit down!

That's ridiculous!

kittyandthefontanelles · 22/07/2012 21:05

Perhaps the sprinkles are SO AMAZING that you have to be Sitting down to eat them or you fall over?

trikken · 22/07/2012 21:05

sounds like someone who cant be bothered rather than they couldnt actually do it.

AChickenCalledKorma · 22/07/2012 21:06

I'd have been sooooo tempted to sit down on the floor and ask again for sprinkles. (OK, I wouldn't really, but I'd like to think I would!)

wannabedomesticgoddess · 22/07/2012 21:07
Hmm

I would have taken my custom elsewhere!

ElliotW · 22/07/2012 21:08

I wish I'd thought of that AChickenCalledKorma Grin

I don't understand why they would make less mess sitting down. Have you seen my DD2 with an ice cream? More ends up on the table, the floor, her clothes than ends up in her mouth. I would have thought they would have wanted people to take that sort of shannanigans out the shop.

ElliotW · 22/07/2012 21:15

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's baffled!

MulberryMoon · 22/07/2012 23:12

If you eat in do you get the ice cream on a plate which is larger than the tub? If so then perhaps they think there isn't room in the tub for two scoops without it falling on the floor and making a mess. Maybe the tub is so very very teeny that it would be impossible to shake sprinkles over it without making a mess?

HipHopOpotomus · 22/07/2012 23:25

Baffled indeed! Sure you weren't being filmed Grin

BackforGood · 22/07/2012 23:35

But surely if you go outside and wander away from the shop, then they are less likely to make a mess than if you sit down and stay in the shop ? Confused

Leanderbaer · 23/07/2012 00:00

It's time to name and shame, or at least give a town.......please. Smile

Hopandaskip · 23/07/2012 00:06

I think I would then say "I'd like to change my order to eat in then." Eat a few bites and ask for a tub to take the rest home in.

MammaTJ · 23/07/2012 00:54

I would have thought they would willingly give you sprinkles to eat elsewhere, but not let you have them eat in if they make that much mess!!
