to worry about my cat

He sleeps all the time. When he's not sleeping he's eating. Is he having a growth spurt?

Depends.

Does he look like this?

MrsPresley · 22/07/2012 19:56

Sounds like he's in his teenage years Grin

JumpingThroughHoops · 22/07/2012 19:57

Warm weather? mine never eats in the heat.

Tallalime · 22/07/2012 20:10

How old is he?

My old cat (13) sleeps all day, I can go out in the morning and he won't have moved when I get home from work. He is that lazy.

My younger cat (7) also sleeps quite a lot but I know he is out hunting most of the night so that's understandable.

I might be concerned if a very young cat slept all the time as they tend to sleep/be active/eat in cycles... much like small children.

HazleNutt · 22/07/2012 20:16

yabu, that's what cats do. In my next life, I want to be a cat..

Latara · 22/07/2012 20:20

My cat slept on the bedroom carpet overnight.
This morning she slept under the hedge (waited for birds to walk into her mouth... didn't happen, got bored, fell asleep, woke up, waited for birds etc etc)..
This afternoon i found her asleep snuggled up on my hoodie on the bed.
This evening she's been stretched out upside down on the lounge windowsill.. now she's sat on 'her' chair after eating her biscuits; washing her paws & face but starting to look veryy sleepyyy...

I think your cat is normal!!

Latara · 22/07/2012 20:21

Or mine is lazy.

JustFabulous · 22/07/2012 20:22

You can never be unreasonable when worrying about your cat.

I love my cat. I have several threads about her as she is very old and ill

Latara · 22/07/2012 20:26

Ps. i just saw a neighbour's 2 boy cats.. asleep under a van.. it's been a very hot day so i think it's normal. My cat usually goes a bit crazy later in the evening, when other cats are around. She's 5.

Hope your old & ill cat will be with you for a while longer, JustFab.

JustFabulous · 22/07/2012 20:34

Thanks Latara. I am hoping she makes it to DD's birthday.

RandomMess · 22/07/2012 20:37

Don't cats only stay awake for around 3 hours in 24? So most of those 3 hours are eating and sh*tting I reckon!

kittyfishersknickers · 22/07/2012 20:39

Sounds like a standard cat.

Is this a change from previous behaviour? Is he behaving differently in any other way? I reckon if he's still eating he's OK

CaliforniaLeaving · 22/07/2012 22:34

Normal cat behavior, ours sleeps, eats and poops, she's 7. Occasionally she goes outside and waits to be let back in.

Shullbit · 22/07/2012 22:45

Ours is a year and half and still mainly sleeps. She tends to have a mad half hour every day, picks at her food throughout the day, has a shit and piss, teases the dog for a short while before getting bored and going back to sleep. She sleeps A LOT. It is normal I think. Especially on a hot day.

I wouldn't worry unless your cat isn't eating much at all, is vomiting and is losing weight etc. You will know if something is wrong.
